besides the fact of having a V12, i think the SL55 is def a much better buy, for the amg looks and options...

I would rather have the exterior of the 55 but the interior of the 600. IMO, the wood steering wheel and availability of the stone interior makes the 600 more appealing. It's the "signature" differences found in the 600 that win me over.

.

I like the stone interior myself, but it's hard to imagine that a wood steering wheel alone wins you over

The differences are so slight on the interior that they are not really worth mentioning.
Consider that the suspension is considerably softer on the SL600 (more like the SL500), being the most noticable difference between the cars (and the sound of course ).
In the video, the testers noted that the SL55 urged you to go fast while the SL600 invited a more casual ride.

But hey, this is why Mercedes can sell them both side by side for just about the same price without canibalizing sales; they are designed for different driver demographics!

When I want to see which is the best sport car in a sport auto match, I just look at the laptime on the nurburgring. Just forget 0-100Km/h or any other number; the laptime, enough said.

You're quite right about that.

So how does the SL55 stack up with the competition with regard to the laptime at nurburgring?

IIRC, the SL55 kept up very nicely with a Z8 according to a post on this forum. I am hoping i'm right. Might have been a tad bit faster (hah)
