over priced wheels

hit something on the freeway and popped the right rear tire. Took the wheel off to get new tire and discovered the wheel cracked in two places. Went down to MB to order a new wheel and got the shocker. $2250 for the wheel, $400 to chrome it, $350 for the tire. $3250 total after tax and mounting. This was for the stock 19" AMG wheel.

Will your insurance cover it? That sounds pretty steep

I got that tire and wheel warranty wehn I bought the car. Paid $700, in the first month it paid for itself twice over.

Odd, that the wheel in that link was a '211...' part number, which normally denotes W211 E-Class. I wonder if that wheel is actually one of the rare 19" 2pc offerings for the E55, and not the SL65 (R230) wheel.

You can see in the classifieds a set of SL65 wheels that show a '230...' part number.

You are probably right, but pretty much all of the advertised SL65 wheels I've seen on ebay have the 211 code. Not sure what's up with that.

Yeah, weird.

You know what I noticed though? All of those sets that denote the 'W211....' part numbers have a 9.5" rear whilst the 'R230...' set, has a 10" rear and different offsets. That's gotta be it.

Ahh you're right. Those ebay ones must be E or CLS wheels. Oh well, I tried!

Good luck OP, hopefully insurance will take care of you.
