20 inch rims on an SL55
Hey everybody, I've been meaning to get new rims for my 03 SL55 amg and now that the tires are wearing down its about getting to that time and i've been looking at rims. I sometimes hear things like 20's might rub on the fender of cars or they might affect the performance (feeling bumps in the road more). Does anyone know if 20's fit nice? or can anyone recommend any good rims? I might be considering TSW's Mandrus line but they seem cheap... Also I'm looking towards chrome...
Thanks!
Thanks!

I ride on 20's and the ride is a little rougher than stock but it fills the wheel well space nicely. I think 20's are the best if you're going with aftermarket wheels. My car's lowered on links and I have no scrubbing issues. As for wheels, you should look in the classified section as wheels for the SL/CLS come up often. It'll save you a lot of $$$ buying used versus new.

I have some big 20's on my car, nothing rubs & no other problems. My only concern is potential damage from potholes, which is more likely the bigger the dia. I think I will be selling my Lorinsers sometime in the future (as soon as I get some other set on).

You'll be fine as long as you stay close to the OEM dimensions:
- Wheel widths: 8.5" front and 9.5" rear
- Wheel offsets: low 30s
- Tire diameter: 26"
- Tire widths: 255mm front and 285mm rear
Hope that helps.

Need some advice before I pull the trigger:
Would these specs be a bad idea for HRE wheels?
Front: 9" offset 32+
Rear: 11" offset 37+
Thank you

20s here too, with no problem with a 9" front and 11" rear.
Tires are 255/30/20 and 305/25/20
Ride is substantially rougher, but that comes with the territory.

i got 19 up front, 20 out back, also on 305 25 20's. I was impressed with how decent the ride still is for as little rubber I'm on. If you are going with 20's though, don't go cheapo on tires or you might get an even harsher ride or a ton of road noise. I've been very happy with my michelin ps2's

The ride is definitely a bit bumpier/harsher with 20s, especially if you are moving up from 18s. Personally, I think 20" wheels fit the sl perfectly, and I would gladly trade the moderate decrease in ride quality for a huge improvement in aesthetics. Whatever you do, I would stick with forged wheels. We have some high end forged options for you at insane clearance prices, including a few sets in chrome. Contact us if interested
