Cool Just Got My MBH Headers and Caragraphic Downpipes

Just wanted to share some photos before I start setting those on my car this saturday. These are the MBH headers I ordered from Dynocomp for my SL63. Richard from Dynocomp is a high class person. Very friendly and very supportive and answered all the questions I had. Dynocomp dont offer down pipes for my SL63. Therfore, I got in touch with caragraphic and they customised some straight pipes to the resonator. I also have the peice for the secondary cat deleate, but its not showing in this photo, I left them at the shop, but they attach directly to the downpipes (will show you the complete set up from the bottom). I will have to cut the caragraphic pipes where the last outlet of the headers will meet. At that point welding is going to be made to get the pipes attached to the headers. This a Long Tube, straight pipe configuration. I dont know anybody who has an SL63 that has the same set up. I will certainly post videos for all of you....please give me your thoughts. Should be very loud

Congrats on the headers man! All the pieces look beautifully crafted.
Props to Cargrphic for fabricating a custom Mid pipe.

James@ACGSD has a tune specifically calibrated to be used with MBH headers, you can try it out if you like.

Thanks man. The car is currently at the shop, should be ready by Tommorrow. Dynocomp did not provide me with new exhaust gaskets like they stated on thier website. We had to order some new sets from the dealer. They arrived this morning and started working on it. Dont worry about the software. My software was tuned from a well known German tuning warehouse , It certainly outpreforms the one James has.

For the SL63, there aren't alot of companies that develop longtubes. I only know of 5. Defelipio from Australia has a longtube 4 into 1 design, Evosport and MBH have a Try-Yi longtube design, and carrlson and supersprint have a mid-tube 4 into 1 design. The headers I ordered from MBH is certainly top notch. Even the mechanic that I took the car to was amazed at how well the headers were crafted and designed for my SL.

I chose MBH, due to them having a 2 inch primary design, while all other headers for the 63 platform use a 1 7/8 inch design. This results in a brutal firing order and cylinder scavenging effect. The headers alone have been tested to give around 45 horsepower.
You can view it from here:

Pure Magic. Headers changing firing order...

Btw, larger primaries result in moving the tq curve higher in the rpm range (this is how the more hp is made on the top end) and on the 6.2 engine which is already somewhat weak at the lower end this is not a great idea... Yu spend far more time below 4000 rpms than above it

Weak on the low end?. the 63 engine gives you an almost full potential as low as 2500 RPM. Get your facts straight bro.

and let me correct you on another thing, when your racing from a roll (not from stand point), you will be spending more time above 4000 RPM. just shifting from second gear to third will smack your RPM back at around 4200 RPM. Drive a 63, and look at the shifting pattern. nuf said

I agree when racing. But under normal driving conditions the 63 motor feels barely adequate at low rpms in our cars. I always lust after the 55 motor feel under those circumstances. So putting headers that will move the tq even higher especially in such a heavy car is not my cup of tee. If I wanted a BMW engine feel I would have driven an m6.

I undestrand the appeal of your setup, I just have different take on it.

The 55 motors are absolute monsters on low end torque when compared to the 63's.

SL55: 531trq @ 2750rpm
SL63: 465trq @ 5200rpm

The Work was completed today. The car sounds very mean. I will post the video tommorw, here are some pics of the set up:

I want give a special thanks to the person that made this happen.

Abdulla, from ByDesign.(also a member in this forum)
check out his website:
http://www.bd-motor.com

Any person from the middle-east should defenitly check with him for tuning and upgrades. Very polite, very respectful, very easy to work with, and knows his stuff.

My SL63 is now a beast

all mods have been completed (will show you all the pics when I pst the video)
- PP-Performance ECU tuning
- MBH Headers
- Caragraphic downpipes
- Carbonio air intake
- PPipercross filters
- MHP intake heat reduction gaskets
- MHP thermostat
- Evosport rotors

I had a previous tune (i'm not gonna say which tuner), that gave me 390 rwhp. I switched to PP-performance files and glad that I did. I'm pretty sure The car on the same dyno right now with all the mods listed above will dyno at least 460 rwhp if not more. here in the middle-east, we run on 97 octane. I will dyno it and will show you the results.

The header/downpipe combo looks terrific. How did you managed to have Cargraphic custom making you the downpipes? I would assume they would need a SL 63 in the shop no? or at least a full stock SL 63 exhaust so that they can get a reference.
Can you elaborate? the idea sounds great!

Yes, they had an SL63 that was worked on. You can call them and ask them. ByDesign did everything for me with cargraphics and MBH
