Stupid Newbie Jacking question

What is the best way to get under these cars to work on them. I know this sounds like a really stupid question and I feel stupid for asking it but I have worked on a fair number of cars and trucks in my life but this car baffles me. Only one of my floor jacks is low enough to roll under my SL65 and then the plate is the wrong shape for getting under the jack point without damaging surrounding shields. Temporarily I have been using the goofy jack that comes with the car. There has got to be a better way!

Try pushing the button so that 2 red lights come on. If you can't get it done that way, well

try getting a low profile racing jack... jack point you can just use a piece of wood shaped in the right way, a good template to use is the shape of the jack that comes with the car, usually a rectancle. Or you can get a rubber piece with a square protrution that fits into the jack point slot under the car.

Hey man, thanks for the tip. I pushed the button and Viola! The car just levitated by itself. I didn't even know self levitation was one of the options on my SL. What will MB think of next!!

I will check into a LP racing jack. Thing is, and I am not sure if this is the same on other SL's, but the jack on my car has a peg that fits horizonally into a hole in the side of the rocker panel area. First you must remove a fiberglass cover to get to it. There are 4 rubber feet under the car I assume for dealer lifts to rest on. That is what I have been trying to use the floor jack on but will need to make an adapter.

Thanks to all for the replies. At least I know I am not crazy. It takes a little improvising but I think I have a handle on it now. It appears you are almost forced to use the factory jack if you want to put a jack stand under the pad. Or just improvise a low profile jack for one corner at a time.....I like the hockey puck idea

Two of the jacking pads were missing on mine which was kind of confusing but maybe not uncommon. I bought new ones from MB and they just snapped in.

Yes I see the jacking points but my current floor jacks need slight modifications to work properly without causing other damage. Tonight I stopped by a local auto store and I found a really nice 3 ton aluminum racing jack that should work great. The jack pad is flat and covered in textured rubber. Lowers to a height of 3.5 inches and should fit the rubber jack point of the car without damaging any of the surrounding shields. I hope to pick one up tomorrow night. Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction.
