Stupid Newbie Jacking question
What is the best way to get under these cars to work on them. I know this sounds like a really stupid question and I feel stupid for asking it but I have worked on a fair number of cars and trucks in my life but this car baffles me. Only one of my floor jacks is low enough to roll under my SL65 and then the plate is the wrong shape for getting under the jack point without damaging surrounding shields. Temporarily I have been using the goofy jack that comes with the car. There has got to be a better way!

try getting a low profile racing jack... jack point you can just use a piece of wood shaped in the right way, a good template to use is the shape of the jack that comes with the car, usually a rectancle. Or you can get a rubber piece with a square protrution that fits into the jack point slot under the car.

Hey man, thanks for the tip. I pushed the button and Viola! The car just levitated by itself. I didn't even know self levitation was one of the options on my SL. What will MB think of next!!

Thanks to all for the replies. At least I know I am not crazy. It takes a little improvising but I think I have a handle on it now. It appears you are almost forced to use the factory jack if you want to put a jack stand under the pad. Or just improvise a low profile jack for one corner at a time.....I like the hockey puck idea

Two of the jacking pads were missing on mine which was kind of confusing but maybe not uncommon. I bought new ones from MB and they just snapped in.
