Mercedes SL R230 Command upgrade. Check out this new bit of kit?
I stumbled across this and was suprised to say the least. It looks like a direct replacement for the SL R230 command unit and it hooks directly up to all the existing steering wheel system and the Mercedes CAN system.
Not sure on it as a whole but seems to be a very clean nifty bit of kit and a great way to upgrade the satnav / TV / Bluetooth / media interface as well as keeping the car as OEM as possible.
There are a few videos of the kit running on a CLS55 as well I have posted. Anyone have any experience with this kit?

smtg i have been looking for a long time.. it is the quality i am concerend about.
looks to me like "alpha version", not impresed by retro look of the front.

Wow, this is very interesting. An OEM look unit that works with all OEM buttons/features and yet has more modern navagation/radio intelligence? Hmmmm...

Id love to have all those features in my car while still being able to utilise the steering wheel buttons etc. It even has the bluetooth built in to it so I dont need to buy a $300 puck.

Theres some info on these in the w211 non-AMG forum. Supposed to be complete junk, from what I recall. Search for DIN....I think it was.

I did it several yrs ago. it works but you have to know what to do to get the full effectiveness out of it.

I've been in contact with the company for some time now. They just offered the product for shipping. The price direct is about $500 plus $70 shipping. (way less than that ebay one). I am in process of ordering one now and will do a writeup and video as soon as we get it in (should be 2 weeks or so, shipping is 5-7 days).
If anyone is interested in one, let me know and I'll see what a package price is. They did mention that there is a discount for multiple units.

I would be interested. We sent them $600 , last month but they reimbursed via paypal because they did not have in stock. They Sent me email last week saying they do. If you can negotiate group buy,I would be interested. Ihave similar unit installled in my vw cc for the past 2 years and besides the radio reception not being great , I am very happy with all the "toys", that normally cost $1,500 at vw. Looks and fits right in. The vw unit was$400 installed and included, blutetooth,nav, sd card, tv etc...

I am really interested as well.
I am really curious as to the quality of the unit but I hate not having a touch screen Nav on the COMMAND so it is a small price to pay.
Also, when you play a DVD mp3 in the COMMAND it takes forever to scan through the songs.
How is the response time on the new unit? Is there any lag?

the radio changed in these years, its not the same thing. you have to have the exact radio for your car to get it to work in your car. The most of the conversions that work require you to send in your radio, have them install a different euro model integrated circuit so it will turn on the tv feature, as in euro cars, then you have several outboard components that have to be used to plug in your external video components to

I just got my invoice from the company the other day. Total price 595 with shipping ($70), paypal fee ($25), SD card with map use ($10) and the optional digital tv tuner ($40 already in the price).

I think the picture is misrepresenting the item slightly (looks photoshopped)
The radio it shows it replaced in looks like a command 2.5 for MY2008 and newer r230.
Edit...i think i see what you mean hum. I have a 2005 so it has the newer center. I'll have to find out if they have 2 different units.

We and others have heavily reviewed the units elsewhere (although they were for W211 and W164, it is the same unit with different face)- I would review them if you are interested....

Bad news guys. The company just confirmed that this is for the older style radios with the surround. This will not fit MY05 and newer.
