Hey all - im going to be active in this forum again!
I am now looking into buying an sl55. I found one 2003 with 42k miles / Pano Roof -3 owners - 1st owner bought in 2002 in NY - 2nd owner in Arizona - 3rd owner in Utah. CLEAN TITLE/CARFAX/AUTOCHECK. I was wondering if there's anything that I need to look for before buying this specific sl55. Are there any known problems with sl55's ? is 2003 a good year for the sl55?
Please - any information/feedback is greatly appreciated!

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
these are very expensive cars to get serviced. there are many things to look at before you buy. especially a 10 yr old car. You have to take it to mercedes, get them to do a preowned inspection. then you will know what you can expect from the car

2003 AMG SL55, 2002 AMG CLK55, 2002 AMG ML55, 2005 ML350, 1995 S320 LWB - totaled
Intercooler pump replaced - common and minor issue
ABC componants replaced or leaking - not as common but VERY expensive to replace.
Any minor issue will be not cheap to fix.
The car needs to be as close to perfect as possible.

I doubt anyone will warranty an 03. I had the IC pump replaced. I put maybe 4k a year on my car and have it serviced regularly. Naturally the faster parts wear the sooner they'll have to be changed. How much are they asking for the car?

2 worn out struts = $890 + tax
tranny flush = $300 + tax
brake flush = $260 + tax
new accessory battery = $300
so is it worth it? cosmetic is near mint

I paid $4,500.00 3 years ago for 6 years and 60,000 miles 0 deductable
In my case the car had 32,000 in Feb 09, so my warranty is till:
92,000 miles or Feb 2015, which ever comes first

they are asking $29,995 + i pay for registration. its fully loaded pano roof black with berry red interior, 41k miles. i got the pre purchase inspection done at the mb dealer and this is what they found:
abc leak = $1800 + tax
2 worn out struts = $890 + tax
tranny flush = $300 + tax
brake flush = $260 + tax
new accessory battery = $300
so is it worth it? cosmetic is near mint

Fix the abc leak and battery, the struts and flush can wait. I think thats a great price. My car has 0 issues and I'd take 32k in a heart beat.

the abc leak- they all leak at some point. depending on the leak- some people care, some dont.

i heard abc leak is very important to get fixed. thus why so expensive? and is this something i NEED to get done by dealer ONLY? i dont really trust other certified privately owned mechanics

You can't get a Fidelity Platinum plan on a 2003 SL any more. Even NAC, for less money, will only go back to 2005.
They must be talking about hood, top, or trunk struts. No way are two ABC struts under $1000 at a Benz dealer.

Sounds like youve already made up your mind; I guess I personally would be a bit hesitant about what other deferred maintenance costs that may pop up...

I like the color combo. The rims are ok looking, but I sure wouldn't want to clean them. Car looks a little high in the pictures. Was the suspension raised with the console button?
