Can I use this converter to take a e63 wheel airbag to my 04 e55 (w211)? Any additional coding needed?

Also can you PM me the price?

Does your 2004 e55 already have shift buttons? If so, there will be no coding required to use paddles as your car is already coded. Can you check the part numbers of your shift buttons? If they are 870273-0002 & 870273-0003 (or 870273-0000 & 870273-0001 for many CLK's and SL's) then the module will adapt the new paddles to your car.

why dont you pm me if you still have questions.

Hi,
Can I buy the electronic modul only as I already have the paddles?
How much would that be?

Cheers

If you have the dual phase shift buttons (up and down on both sides) the new al. padels are plug and play - if you have single phase buttons (like the CLK55 AMG) you'll need the converter offered via DCT. I've done the conversion, very easy.

here is a 2 page blurb I put together today, It has pictures of the shift buttons it replaces (with part numbers), explains in reasonable detail what it does and how to install it.

if there are questions that it doesn't answer, feel free to ask them or send me a PM,

Chris

yes, the module will make the newer AMG paddles (ie 1712670046) function on your 2004 e55. Changing the steering wheel and airbag will not interfere with this.

The module is currently available for $199

you can contact Ivan, or you can PM me your address or any more questions and I will get you a total including shipping and/or answer your questions.

Chris

Worth mentioning,

This converter which is designed to allow direct plug-in replacement of shift buttons with AMG Paddles on 2006 and earlier AMGs ...

not only works with the recommended AMG Paddle switch (set) # 171 267 00 46,
but also allows direct plug-in of (*nearly) ALL other AMG paddles....

.... Including the Brabus paddles * (Brabus paddles require a simple add-on "paddle extender/adapter harness" available with the "Mercedes Paddle Converter" (ver 1) for a small additional cost)

* there are some oddball AMG paddles (paddles made for the late S-class AMG's for example) that (like the Brabus paddles) have a short harness on the DOWN paddle AND/OR have the wires going to pins 1 and 2 of its connector (instead of pins 1 and 3 like nearly all other AMG paddles have their Down paddle wired) these will also need a "Down-paddle extender/adapter harness"

If you want to know about paddles you already have, send me a PM and I will confirm their compatibility.

Chris

if your E55 is a 2006 it is likely that there is a less expensive solution for you .

the module is $199

but ..

does your E55 need it .... well ....
If I understand correctly, sometime in 2005 (perhaps during the model year or after the end of it) The E55s had a change of button design (in conjunction with other changes to the car) moving away from the old-style buttons (that this module allows you to replace with the new paddles) to a newer style that is functionally equivalent to the newer AMG paddles ... so,

if your E55 uses buttons with part numbers 870273-0002 & 870273-0003 this module IS for your car.

if however, your E55 has buttons with part numbers 870273-0004 & 870273-0005 then you DONT need the module. In the case of these buttons, an adapter harness is all you need ( and I can supply that too) .

Yes, it will.

I haven't actually popped out and checked the shift buttons on an early S55 to confirm which particular part numbers Mercedes used in this model. but I suspect it is the part number 870273-0002 & 870273-0003 buttons. In any case, the documentation in WIS confirms that the shift buttons in your car (a pair of switches in series, consisting of a normally open and normally closed switch with internal zener diode and resistor) are configured the same way as the 2003 SL55, CL55, CLK55, and E55 and therefore you CAN use this module to allow direct plug-in of the newer AMG paddles (A 171 267 0046).

You may want to check the number on your buttons. They are really easy to check; just pry lightly on the lip of the black portion of the shift button (that is furthest from the rim of the wheel) with a small screwdriver or plastic wedge. I would be appreciative of your verifying the button part numbers and posting what you find.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask here or shoot me a PM

Chris

This conversion module is for EARLY (pre-2007) AMG's.

The AMG paddles are $108 (from oediscountparts.com ... use part number 1712670046)

Some instructions for installing the module can be found above http://m.www.mbworld.org/forums/show...9&postcount=32

Instructions for modifying the wheel (installing the paddles in a wheel that came with shift buttons) currently must be gleaned from threads created by other members. Threads that relate to the early SL, CLK, CL, CLS, S, and E55s, generally also include info on dissecting/transplanting parts from old switches to new paddles .... these steps CAN BE IGNORED now as this module makes the new paddles a direct plug in (in place of the old style buttons).

Here are some threads that show some of the light modification required to add the new paddles in place of the old buttons (used in an SL, CLK and CL) . When I get a chance, I may create a guide .... however, these Modding pioneers have already shown the way ...

http://m.www.mbworld.org/forums/show...01#post4485301 In this thread, note how Tex5 used the body of the original button to make an adapter (bezel) for mounting the new paddle. The pictures that show disassembly and modification to the AMG aluminum paddle switches assemblies can be disregarded as the Module makes this unnecessary.

http://www.slkworld.com/94992-post6.html This post from another forum (you might need an ID to view the pics) shows a slightly different use of the original button (as the adapter/bezel). It shows some good shots of the modification to the pocket (in the back side of the wheel). Worth noting, the new paddles are/were a direct plug in for the SLK. The R171 (and C55) do not need the "Mercedes Paddle Converter" as they came equipped with different electronics designed to work with the newer buttons (870273-0010 &870273-011) that, like the new AMG paddles, are merely normally open switches (unlike the older buttons which were a pair of switches in series, consisting of a normally open and normally closed switch with internal zener diode and resistor that were used on ALL of the AMGs except the slk55s and the C55s) .... so, in this particular conversion, there was no butchering of the switches & paddles required (making it more like the conversion you would do using the new "paddle converter module").

https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...rofit-c55.html Another good thread with quality pictures and info. The C55, like the R171, also came from the factory with shift buttons that are plug compatible with the AMG paddles (hence the lack of switch butchering/transplanting).

feel free to Pm me with any questions,
Chris
