How lucky are we?
To drive the ultimate convertible? I had a chance to drive the SL65 after 5 weeks and I forgot how glorious it can just to press the lever for the hardtop, open her up, and drive.
I just put new rubber (Hankooks) before I left on my trip overseas and this was the first extended period of time driving the 65. Just for ***** and giggles, I took a back road near my house and put the cruise control on 60mph...downshifted to 3rd gear...and punched it to somewhere above double that...
The torque on this Beast is intoxicating...life is too short...I need to drive the Beast more...

I agree 100%. I was a hardcore BMW guy, but the torque and fit/finish on the SL cars is unbelievable. I love this thing.

Just put Hankooks on my SL55. I like them!
75 degrees out today... Put top down and hand a great time driving around..... So much fun I forgot to take the bike out for a spin!

It's your world, Jon....we're just living in it.
I have the kooks on my 20's, lowered. Decent inner wear, from the neg camber is making them loud after 5-6k...
Lowering chews threw tires man....

After a 6 week break, the first couple holes were shaky on Sunday. I doubled the first hole...scary...plus I bought the new Taylormade R11s and it was the first time I swung it AND it was regripped with Jumbomax grips (along with all my irons)...so it took me the first 9 to get used to them.
Just glad for the day light savings time...more practice rounds after work...more cigars to smoke.

Shot a 39 on the front, 46 on the back. Beer kicked in...
I'm on Cobra S9 irons, with Cobra big stick and Nike Rescue hybrids. Oh, and 99$ putter on sale for $29.
Hard to find stuff for lefties. Good news is, I can toss back about 12 beers a round, and not fall down too many times. Depends on slope....

I'm going to ask for strokes the next time we play...85 is a good score on 2 six packs...

I enjoy reading your posts. You just seem to articulate the love we all have for the R230 better than most. Your timing is impeccable too. It was 65 and sunny today in the great white north and I broke the SL out for the first time in months. The best thing for me about being forced to put my SL away for its long winter slumber is breaking it out when the weather breaks. I fall in love with it all over again. We truly are a lucky bunch.

He is way too big now to sit in the SL plus that drooling thing can get bad...he does love sticking his head out the back of the Hyundai though...
Yes...the SL gets me waxing poetic...the GTR not so much...I'm too busy not soiling myself @ WOT. The SL65 is more of a progressive freight train pushing you forward at an incredible rate...the red devil is a contained hurricane let loose.
I wake up every day feeling blessed...decent health, great family, and stable of cars for every occasion and mood. I just need a supercar to put in the garage to satisfy the total dick in me.

Well, I put my nasty butt and back sweat all over your SL65 passenger seat, so some may say we're even.
That 85 (actually it was an 86....I have the card right in front of me, since it was signed, witnessed and dated for my first round in the 80s). It was a 39 on the front WITH NO BIRDIES! And and a 47 on the back that I started triple, double and bogey on 10-12, after the turn. Boo...
Played from the middle tees with a 123 slope. No way I'm giving you strokes! You've seen me play. I'm much better than that day, but nowhere near the 39 that I shot on the front. The 47 on the back was more like it....I shoot 90-95 pretty much every time out now. All depends on how my $29 putter is working that day. My nickname in my golfing circle is 3-putt.
Damn, you're right....we are a fortunate bunch.
Next time in Orlando....I'm gonna make you pay for the round, the beer, and I'm gonna need a ride to and from my hotel, in that nasty Switzer-mobile.

Re: We Are Fortunate
I just cleaned my BMC's, changed oil, flashed ECU, and put my 19's back on for the season.
Had been running the stock 18's and stock ECU over the cold months.
Man does the power feel good, have been out several times in nice top down temps, gotta love this car!

Interesting thread as I took my SL55 out yesterday and ran into a guy with a REALLY nice 210 E55...We shared a look that basically said "can you believe we are so fortunate to have such nice cars?" I thought about how blessed and fortunate I am to enjoy such a special car.

Guys,
Help me here... I bought a 47K mile '03 black SL55 last year, put SL65 wheels on her and it looks and runs FABULOUS... but...
I had an R129 for the last 16 years before the SL55 and I find I am still missing my old '86 Porsche sports car feel ... the SL55 is such a "point and shoot" car but heavy and not fast enough for me in the curves and my daily 4mile commute is in my 2005 F150.
I am looking at a 930 Turbo... am I losing my mind at 55 years of age?
Thanks..David

I love my 65 but the GT-R itch is bothering me here and then.
AMGfan, can you do a quick compro between these 2?
Doubt I'll buy Godzilla but a new 991 TT S in 2014 is in my future.

I'm in the market for tires. My top objective is straight line traction above all else. Been looking at the Hankooks, but just can't pull the trigger on them. So you think they stick well even for modified 55ks? I know nothing is going to stop the tires from breaking loose under heavy throttle.

The 65 has some lag...minimal...but still there...once it hooks up and boost hits the power is progressive and seemingly non stop. You have to worry about wheel spin a lot more with the 65.
The LC , AWD, gear ratios (extra gear) of the GTR are the beauty of the car and where it beats the 65...don't get me wrong...the 65 can hang with the STOCK GTR on the 1/4 mile with a tune and drag wheels and radials...but once you start modding...hands down the GTR will blow it away.
The modded 65 (mine has a Kleeman ECU/TCU tune) shines more above 120mph and would be competitive with a stock GTR...
Now...my GTR is going to be a very different animal (Switzer R1KX)...given the
right conditions it could break 9sec 1/4 at more than 165mph+ ET...60mph-130mph in 3.5-3.3s...and these aren't calculated numbers but actual real times and speeds.
As far as driving capabilities other than going straight...no contest...GTR would kill my 65 on a road course.

They seem to hook up well enough for the 65...I'll know more once I take it to the track and compare them to my drag setup...
