There are may options, Like Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, and Pioneer to name a few. I just happen to have a Pioneer. Keep in mind its all retro-fit as no one makes an install kit. Meaning you will have to have a custom trim plate made and ditch the factory amp. In my case, I used a JL Audio amp. I can't speak for other head units, but I really like my Pioneer unit. Features like Ipod, Pandora, GPS, SD card, DVD player, MP3 DC playback including DC-R and DVD-R, Bluetooth, Satellite radio, Divx player, the list goes on.
I enjoy mine very much, but I did loose my steering wheel controls. Not sure it it can be made to worth with the wheel controls, but the install shop I used couldn't do it.

I have just had this installed http://www.cargpsnet.com/mercedes-sl...580-p-525.html really excellent kit does everyting including reverse camera and works with my steering wheel controls. Ordered on a Friday recived on a Monday very helpful peopl, highly recommended

I just ordered the below kit for mine. Not sure why everyone says there is not a kit for these cars unless this kit, and the vendor I called is totally incorrect. I know I have seen a kit for 01+ sl's on Sonic Electronics too.

Hi there, looked at that as well. What year is your car, and did it originaly have the cell phone connection in the center console? Want to know if I can use the bluetooth feature thats built-in to that new unit, because my car did not come with the phone connection. Might you know?

Yes just the amp. As for fitting I took it to a professional installer who tested the unit to ensure it would work it took them over 11 hours to do but it was done perfectly the cost to fit was £530 including vat

That headunit looks pretty good, can you use that with the stock amp and OEM setup? Direct fit kinda thing? I can't stand my old school 2003 headunit, would love to replace it but don't want to change amps and stuff just want to change the headunit, happy with sounds quality, not with looks!
