Where are all the modded SL55s at?

I am bout to purchase my third SL55 and decided to mod this one as I have left my other two bone stock performance wise. Compared to the E55 forum it seems like almost everyone here is stock. I was thinking about doing a pulley, tune, filters, and CM30 pump. What size pulleys are people running on their SL? My car is currently in Texas and I was going to send it over to Eurocharged since they are right in the neighborhood but it seems like the smallest pulley they sell is 172mm. Is it necessary to add the larger heat exchanger when running a small pulley? I know the SL has two heat exchangers as compared to just one on the E55.

You can do a lot of modding with the price difference between and E55 and an SL55.

I bought my SL because my Blown C6 was just too raw and aggressive. It made me hate to drive it.

That being said, I am interested in a Pulley/ Header kit as well...

Eurocharged is a first class operation and has the best customer service in the business. I'd go with them if my car didn't already have all that is Kleemann on it when I bought it.

I have had great success with RennTech and all of mine was installed by my local MB dealer which was key for me in terms of having their support.

Not necessary but always recommended, expecially with the Texas heat.

Stop on by at the open house on the 28th! There will be a ton of modded cars to check out and talk to the owners!

We currently have a sale for the 55 platform for this week. $600 for the tune!!!

The SL55 comes with one heat exchanger.

Check my sig for mods, I'm adding a second HE from Frozenboost, splitting the cooling system this week, adding killer chiller and injectors next week.

My SL is modded, I just don't list them. I have an EC dyno tune, 180 pulley, RT HE and pump, 80mm TB, shorty headers, secondary delete and phenolic spacers. I just bought an ELM lowering module and will add a fuel rail and injectors hopefully this summer.

There are a number of us with mods, but the "E" guys are the real mod nuts.

I will keep an eye out for you. What part of Milwaukee are you in? I actually live just south of Wales off of 83.

EC never gave me my dyno chart. The guy that worked there at the time kept giving me excuses as to why he could not send it too me. I think EC ended up firing him. I recall wheel torque being in the 530s and don't remember RWHP. Somewhere south of 500. One good indicator of power though is the car ran an 11.8x on streets with a trap speed close to 122 mph. That was with a 1.76 60'. I am thinking the car could go mid 11s on drag radials.

No issues with the 180 shutting down the SC. It can be a little jerky when it comes on under certain conditions, but I kind of like it. It tells me warp speed is online. Most of the time, you don't even notice the SC engage at all. I think the Renntech HE and pump I am running is very good. It just cost way too much. The HE is "V" shaped. People look at it and think it is small. I am willing to bet it has more surface area than most.

Thanks for the info guys. Think I got a little confused as it seems that the SL has a bigger heat exchanger than the E55. Also my new SL has the P030 package which has a second oil cooler which I originally thought was a second heat exchanger. Anyways, I had read that the 180mm pulley was a little jerky when engaging so I was going to do the 172mm size.

Will do on the Killer Chiller 199

Cal that's encouraging to hear. I'm obsessed with keeping IATs low since my car can lose .3/.4 after heat soak. I was going to do a trunk tank but, after hearing some say they go through 50lb. of ice after a few runs I figure going the KC route looks to be a much more efficient way of keeping the IATs in check.

I'd like to see what your car would run with drag radials, judging by your 60ft and mph its possible your car could run 11.30s.

The frozenboost HE is huge when seen in person and its got some heft as well.

Only heard good things about the KC and you have a bigger issue with IATs in FL. My favorite time to hit the track is after a cool sunny day in the fall. The air temp drops when the sun goes down and the track still has some heat in it. After I get my fuel rail, I am going to have to find a set of drags and see what the beast can really do. It would sure be fun to get kicked off of the track for running sub 11.5 without an NHRA approved roll bar.

Mine is pewter and all stock on the outside except for light tint. Once I get my ELM, I will slam the car when parked and drive at or near normal height. I'm big on function over form.

I will keep an eye out for you. Maybe you would like to join me the next time I go down to a Chicago meet. It is mostly E55s. It would be cool to have a couple of SLs.

I actually saw a guy in a pewter one this summer and we said while at a light....were you in Milwaukee at that time? I want to say the car might even have had Indiana plates.

Would love to do some meets....unfortunately my ABC just took a dump on me this week so it looks like it's going to be out of commission for a week. BTW, I get the car serviced at O'Reilly Motorcars......they are downtown....really good pricing and the service is really good, too. I'm not a fan of the stealerships around here....had too many bad experiences with them when I had my BMW's and my CL500.

That was me. I think we were maybe on 27th street or the part of it called Layton Blvd. I still have Indiana plates. The car threw a CEL that I am finally fixing. Turns out to be an bad air pump. I read somewhere that my car would fail the smog test if it has thrown codes related to smog.

I will let you know when the next meet is. It would be great to have a couple of SLs down there. What's up with your ABC? Maybe a strut?

I have a Euro Charged E55 Heat Exchanger sitting here which I hope to tackle in the next month or so. Meant to be a bit bigger than the SL55 one but Adam @ Euro Charged tells me it will fit with a bit of messing around.

Is it best to run the heat exchanger in tandem with the stock one, kinda like this:

Excuse my wonderfull MS Paint skills!

That kind of idea?

My SL55 is modded as well for the record, aiming for 650hp mid 11's :-)

Cheers from London!

Toby

My stock HE has been disconnected, just running the front mount from Frozenboost. The stock HE sits next to the radiator that heats up to over 230 degrees.

Do you think it's pointless running both? Am I better junking the stock heat exchanger and re-routing the pipe work to the new Eurocharged heat exchanger instead?

Let me know your thoughts.
