TPMS

I am trying to find out if all 2005 SL65's came with tpms, and if so, how can I verify they are working on my car? I have read that some have had their tpms turned off by the dealer, if so, how could one tell if the tpms have been disabled or turned off. I am trying to gather this information as I am having new tires installed and this is the time to decide if I should have new tpms sensors installed (as I have no idea how old the current sensors are?) Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Chris

I have an '05 SL600. All 4 of my TPMS modules have been replaced. One of them failed in 2010 and the other 3 in 2011. The batteries don't last forever and since your car is as old as mine, yours may need to be replaced as well.

Yes you can turn on/ off the TPMS using the steering wheel controls and the reset button on the instrument cluster. Perhaps yours has been turned off.

tpms may have been an option, the option list will show it.
or check the dash display and see if it comes up. If you want to check each sensor, a tire shop has a sensor that you can get the output signal strength if you walk around the car and measure at each wheel

I have an '05 SL65 which doesn't have the sensors on the wheels but does have the option in the dash. I'm not sure if previous owner had this turned off or not but I do not receive error code.

When I went thru all the options on the dash and I did not see anything concerning tpms, so should I assume the car never came with it or that somehow it is turned off? Does anyone know if tpms was standard on all 2005 SL65's? Chris

I would think it was standard on that car. But youll have to research everything to find it. go to a tire store and let them check it with a signal strength tester

I trolled old threads to educate myself after I purchased my SL. I'm pretty sure someone posted a way to turn off TPMS. Give search a try. Good-luck.

TPMS

I have a 2005 SL 65......no TPMS on the wheels or on the window sticker or in the computer module......may depend on build date and owner original options order..........can come in handy to help save the rims on a flat, etc....

TPMS

TPMS became mandated in the USA starting with model year 2008, it was optional until then.

My original sensors also started to go in 2011, replaced them all last year with new, and TPMS is again a nice feature.

I got a copy of the factory option codes for my vin # from the Mercedes Dealership and I don't see tpms anywhere on it, so I guess my SL65 didn't come with them from the factory. I guess I don't need to worry about replacing the sensors when I have the new tires installed. Thanks for everyones help, Chris.

2005 SL600. I looked at my original vin# info and it listed the TPMS as optional. However the tire pressure display shows up on the control system under the “vehicle sub-menu. I called a MB dealer and he indicated that my vin# didn’t show the TPMS as listed. Wondering since the cluster shows it is there is a way to add it just adding the sensors? II have to take a look and see if I can tell if the receivers are installed. Just bought this car and was wondering why the pressures didn’t display on the cluster. I almost bought a set of 4 until I talked to the dealer.

I know you can't turn it off if you have it, maybe you can't turn it on if you don't?

I changed wheels and couldn't get the old ones off due to corrosion, it kept bugging me for weeks on the dash and we couldn't turn it off using star so had to buy new ones!
