Sounds great! I think you made a wise choice with the stainless. the thing about the 55k though, it won't engage the SC without a load no matter how high you rev so it always sounds better on the road under some throttle or WOT.

I tried to video my car and it doesn't come close to the actual sound so I figure why bother. Im going to use my Canon t2i to video the car on the dyno, should work better than the IPhone.

Glad you like it king.

Yea, on Q16. I have the killer chiller (works off the AC) and my AC is on the fritz. I may need a new compressor since it just blows hot air and Its filled with freon.

On pump it made 501hp 570tq. I was told 110 would work better so, next dyno tune 110 it is and my AC will be fixed. I have the little reflash gizmo that holds a pump gas tune along with a race gas tune. I can switch back and forth in about a minute.

You get used to the exhaust yet? Its been about 10 days and its still a shock when I step on the go peddle!
Before I can get on it I have to look around and make sure the law isn't lurking. Only downside to a loud exhaust....attention it draws from the lawman.

When I did my res-delete. I was a little bummed out with the lack of sound. I really thought I would get more. These SL55's just don't have an aggressive muffler and that's a let down. I could R&D a muffler, but I fear the car will want to drone. Then you end up scrapping 10 custom made mufflers just to get the right one.

All and all a good mod, but i still wish I had more. For the guy looking for more I recommend electronic cutouts. You can dial in the desired sound at a fraction of the cost of a muffler setup.

I will say this, when I did the cutouts and have them wide open. The vibration was enough to pop the roll bar up. That scared the crap out of me. Good thing it only happened once.

Keeping the resonators and deleting the stock mufflers, cats, along with an x pipe seems to produce a better sound. I will reinstall the res., install an x pipe and delete the muffler.

We deleted the muffler on an SL600 and it sounded amazing. Totally different engine with turbos in the exhaust line though. I think you are on to something though

I love mine so much now that the resonators are gone. My mileage has gone down because I can't keep my foot out of it. I get looks all the time because people can't believe a Mercedes SL sounds like this.

^haha this is an excellent point and we should warn everyone contemplating the mod. I also find my rear tires wear out faster. Who would of guessed an exhaust mod would affect tire wear?

when my green 2247 air filters come in it should make up for the "lost mpg" for this exhaust mod.

verification please...

So I want to do this "resonator" delete but not quite sure what everyone is talking about. The Exhause system diagram doesn't show any "resonators".

Basically it shows:
Firewall cats
Underfloor cats
Center mufflers
Rear mufflers.

I'm assuming everyone is referring to the 2 center mufflers? Can someone please verify so that I can know what I'm talking about when I take it to the muffler shop?
Thanks!

Most people call the center mufflers resonators and the under floor cats secondaries. Some have removed one or the other. I think I few people have removed both. I have shorty headers and a secondary delete which gives a nice roar at WOT, but not noticeable under normal driving.

NO GO on the delete :(

So I dropped off my car at the "Under Car Specialist" (that's what their freakin' sign says!) and they put it on the lift and decided NO WAY.

They told me they'd have to drop the WHOLE system to do it right and they would "rather" not do it.

I'm sure its somewhere here in thread land...so can someone point me to where I can read about different options for louder REAR mufflers? (the shop said they think they could do the rears only!).

Thanks!

they are right that the exhaust system needs to be taken down and the welding done on a bench. I don't see what the big deal is though. I kinda thought this is the sort of thing muffler guys do all day long.
