2006 SL65 ///AMG - GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: 2005 E55; 2002 ML55; 2001 CLK55; 1992 BMW 850i; 1991 M5
Great Deal!

Hi, Cory! Guys, I have this tune on my 06 SL65 along with the TCU tune and I couldn't be happier - especially since I just swapped out my disappointing CM30 with the new Bosch '010' intercooler pump. Hell, I forgot how damn fast this thing is!!!! Positively dangerous!!!

absolutely! Same pricing above apply's to the 600's as well. Here's a dyno test of a 2007 S600 I did last week. Tuned for 91 octane. The gains in the low and mid range are quite impressive- around 110 HP and a HUGE torque gain of about 220 lb/ft. at 3000 RPM.

Wow! big gains. Hey Cory, can you tune for more HP? I am not sure I really understand the difference between torque and HP, but isn't the already massive torque the big V12 puts out more than the car can apply to the road? So if the car has more torque than it can use to launch, wouldn't it benefit from higher HP numbers at higher speeds?

Maybe I have it all wrong. The whole thing is a bit confusing to me how a measurement of work (HP) and a measure of twisting power (tq) relate.

Well, this can be argued many ways and ultimately, it depends on what you want to do with the car. My main argument is going to be: you're probably not constantly driving the car at or near redline, so large peak HP increases (engines typically make peak HP at or near redline) are not as useful (in my opinion) as large increases in the 'usable' RPM range- the range in which you spend most of the time driving the car. So for day to day driving, in my opinion, I'd rather see large gains over a broad part of the RPM range rather than large gains in the last 1000 RPM.

If you're main objective is top speed over a fixed distance, like the texas mile, or an airport runway event, yes, higher peak HP is going to get you more speed.

The relationship between HP and TQ can be a long discussion- here's a good link to read: http://horsepowervstorque.wordpress.com/

Thanks Cory, the explanation was helpful. I think for me, torque is more important. I love the visceral kick in the **** my modded 55k (540 WTQ) delivers at a crack of the throttle. I would love to experience the torque a V12 produces with your tune.

Sl65 2005 performance tuning

Hi Cory,

I have bought an Sl65 2005 three years ago. After I bought it I wanted to install a new steering of 2010 Sl65 and took it to a shop who have missed up the wires and when I put back the original steering the car was not shifting properly. Then I had to take it to the dealer and told me that the transmission had to be rebuilt which I had no choice but to agree. When I took the car from the dealer I was hearing some knocking noise in engine and decided to take it back to the dealer. They have told me that the transmission rebuilt must be accompanied by an engine reprogramming. When I took the car, I was shocked with the poor performance of the car. The car had no power like it used to. So I took it back to the dealer and told me that the programming is the default of the manufacturer.

I need to feel my Sl65 power as It used to be. I'm not sure if the original owner have done performance tuning, but I would like my car to get the power with no pinging noise. By the way I use 95 octane on this car

Your advice would be highly appreciated

Adil
