Top speeds of SL55, SL600, SL65

If the speed governors are completely removed, how fast can an SL55, SL600, and SL65 go?

Can these cars top 200mph in stock form (well, stock minus removing the speed limiter of course).

I think I've read somewhere, that a 65 did 337 km/h (about 209 m/h) in a test...
Perhaps at Nardo..?

A stock SL55 will pass the 200mph barrier with the speed limiter removed easily

55 will do just above 200.

65 will do 215 or so

Can anyone provide actual proof of a stock 55K with only the limiter removed reaching 200MPH? So what would, say a full Stage 3 55K AMG, be able to top out at?

In Auto Motor und Sport super car test in 2002 the SL55 was clocked for a top speed of 325km/h beaten by the Lambo with 580hp due to a broken kompressor belt on the SL.

I seem to recall a video of an SL55 burying the speedo floating around the internet a few years back. I have not found it to post yet though. My SL is limited to 180 ish. I think it is actually 300 kph. I have hit the limit and the car feels like it has a lot left, but my car is not stock.

There are 2 speed limiters I have been told, 155 mph and 186 mph which
is max for tyres. I am not sure I would want to do 200+ if the tyres are
going to burst. I have done 180 in my SL63 and it had plenty more, but
my bottle went. Things happen so quickly at that speed.

OK 155 mph and 186 mph make perfect sense. They convert to 250 kph and 300 kph respectively. Can I ask a stupid American question? What does "my bottle went" mean? I'm thinking bottle = bladder. Heck, I am just getting a handle on "taking the ****."

The SL65-AMG (Stock), but with 0,5 bar higher tyre pressure, did 338km/t or 211 mph at Nardo with official timing equipment. Question is how much more it will do with a tune?

HAHA, I think I have got it. Is this an example of Cockney rhyming slang?

I have that magazine.
And I remember I was blown away by it!
Thinking, I MUST HAVE THIS CAR SOMEDAY!

But I think I recall that the rumour later on said, that Mercedes had an early SLR-engine in that one...
And if it was exactly the coming engine version for SLR, then we all now that it would mean 626 hp instead of the stated 476..!

This is correct. This was in a test of Auto, Motor, Sport magazine, a while ago.

A tuned SL65 from Evotech with bigger Turbos reached 357 KM/H or 222 MPH (with GPS) on the german Autobahn. This is comparable with the Brabus record cars. Important is to get some special tires, which can handle the speed and the weight of the 65.

any high performance tire with extra load rating will handle the speed for short bursts of vmax runs as long as not done in the death valley.

Yes, maybe they will handle it. But I personally prefer to be on the safe side and have the approval from the tire-company.

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
Maximum speed of a stock sl 55

A stock sl 55 derestricted is going to reach 202 mph (325km\t).
So it wasn't a slr engine in the auto motor and sport magazine, it was a stock sl 55.
The sl is also quicker than a murcielago from 0-300km\t (186mph)

Just our ECU tuning that also derestricts the car

That is correct. I think have that issue, as well as the Brit mag Autocar where those results first appeared.

I have never gotten into it with a Murcie, but I know the top speed! And the eery bit is just how uneventful it was. I have been at some serious speeds in Ferraris, as well as race cars and this was such a no brainer.

They really got the formula correct with the SL55. Mine was one of the first delivered and it's got a home for life!

keep in mind that the speedo is wildly off at high speeds.

without GPS verification, the speedo could be 10-15mph high.

Thanks man. I think you got one of the perfect R230s. I have heard people talk about good R230s and bad ones. The whole idea of that seems to defy logic IMHO, but you and John (jmf003) definitely got the good ones if it is true.

I wonder how accurate an Iphone or android app would be?
