holy hell. looks like it is ready! still waiting on the red wrap, and the billet pulleys. engine will run though and all other systems a go. just in time for the horrendous weather going on here right now! ug
trunk finished. all lines are run through existing grommets in trunk. not one hole was drilled. copper line is for the vac/boost signal from engine. didn't want to lose signal from so far away. the flexible copper is pretty cheap and available at home depot. great if you are doing a high boost system. which this isn't . lol
the led indicator for the meth kit. needed it to be in my line of site, but wanted it hidden. obviously without the flash from the camera, you would never know it was there. cheap part to put a hole in also.
what i did for the pcv system. just used a simple air compressor inline filter as a catch, then routed it back into intake after tb. fresh air is supplied via the mini air cleaner on drivers side. had to redo it since new tb had no provision and no way to tap into intakes for fresh air.
those dam silicone connectors were about the toughest part of the project! not easy to make a round tube do what it is doing! you only get one shot at getting it right too.

You did some job!! Great taste, that is something you can sit in the garage and admire before taking her for a run. Your lucky we aren't neighbors. Any codes pop up, check engine?

thanks kustom. i havn't tried to start it yet, really don't want to flood it with the 550cc injectors. it will be trying to spray 50% more than it should. it does show a prob with the suspension, but, once the engine runs and the pump pressure builds back up it should be fine.
hopefully no engine codes pop up. if they do i will have ec in texas remotely plugged into ecu and will be talking to them on the phone so it could probably be taken care of if something pops up.

Your welcome and well deserved. You wont flood the car. I ran my car without issue after installing TTM injectors (550cc) and fuel rail for 50 miles to get dyno tuned. It should start and idle just fine.

ok, cool. i will fire it up in the morning and just make sure i don't have any issues with anything else before the tune. we had almost 3" of rain today and rest of week not looking good either. i guess i can always do a burnout in the garage!
on second thought, i have had neighbors call the fire department before because they thought my house was on fire with the smoke pouring out of the garage, lol.

fired right up first shot. fuel trims were even very low. not codes and audi tb seems to be working great. there may be a slight lag, but could just be me. tune happens in 2 hours, will let ya know after that!

tune went fine, was a pretty quick process.
the roads were drying up so finally decided to take it for a spin. not more than 1/2 mile it started a rain forest type down pour! literally rivers in the roads in a matter of minutes. was very hard to tell anything as when ever i got into it, the traction control cut it right off. noticed a couple hickups, but the trims were going up to +20% in some throttle ranges under load. normal accel and it was around 5%.
it had to of been 110% humidity, so i really have no definitive info yet and waiting to get some dry roads to test it more on.
ec felt i should be a touch under 600rwhp, but didn't get a chance to feel it. come on dry weather!!!

yes, i was just going to get on ebay and look for some software to data log with. any recommendations? i have a obd2 reader right now that will show 4 real time parameters, but the refresh is not instant and does not data log.

I use this exact setup. I can log my files, send them to my tuner and have him make changes, download the updated file using a flasher that I purchased from OEtuning and transfer to my ECU.

82 mm. throttle body
Very nice work - must be with a good satisfaction to see all things coming together ...... and working - .......... but seeing you, then guessing it will not end there ...... ha ha
Your throttle body looks like a used one on your welding pics. but when mounted it looks like a brand new one ..... guess you just cleaned it up very well ...... what about the wiring? could you use the existing cable from the 74 mm.?
Also; what will be the optimal air intake temperature for the engine/compressor?

the tb was used and getting oxidized. i used an alum brightener then misted with alum colored engine enamel. looks close enough to new for me! lol
yes, there is a phase 2 and 3 planned already for the car. 2 is headers and all the exhaust. 3 is full bells and whistles nitrous kit. plan 4, though hoping it doesn't go this far, is sweeping up all the blown up engine parts off the highway. ha! i may toss in a phase 2.5 though. after seeing what whatever company was charging $8k for the top intercooler set up (that looked to be poorly designed imo) i may do my own. by my figures it could be done for less than $400 and maybe a full days fab time. will post that up as it goes.
with the audi tb you swap out your mb end cap for the audi one. internally the caps are identical, but, since the blade opens the opposite direction, you need to swap the potentiometer polarities and the blade motor polarities. it really is easy. that way you can still use your mb connector and it looks like stock. i did bump a thread a couple weeks ago in the e55 forum that explains and diagrams the swap and mods in very simple terms. a search should pull it right up, think it is the second to last page that has the info.
optimal intake temps is as cold as you can get it! in the trans am series back in the late 60's they used to actually cool the fuel down to the point it was like a slushee. as condensed as it was it gave them more fuel than could fit in the tank at ambient temps and more power. just a fun fact. lol

Yes - it's easy to get carried away ..... I'm new in this and find it very intriguing .... but have to restrain myself .... so I think I will just pull out the engine ... small stuff like that
Well talking throttle body audi? I thought it was a MB I was looking at the A273 141 03 25 ? I can get a new one for about 500$ and used one at MB for the same figure.
For the air temp . any gains in cool down the actual intakes? - the piping itself? I know there could be an issue with condense but this could be solved. Crazy and a waste of time and energy perhaps?

funny you mention the piping itself. i literally just came inside from garage wrapping one of my intake tubes, lol. i am using red wrap too, so for me it is a 70% visual mod, 30% that it may actually help. i know shardul put a thread up awhile back proving it does work though and helps out a few degrees.
the mb 82mm is a touch more plug and play, but really you are only talking about a 15 minute modification to the audi. i have put 250 miles on the car already and not an issue with it. i did toss a blower belt already though. just when i was thinking of bypassing the blower bypass throttle body and keeping blower constantly driven. think i will keep it as stock for now. it allowed me to make it 100 miles back home with still good economy and cruising fine.
will post up pics of wrap. still waiting on the billet pullies though. not sure ups is delivering today though.

just the billet pullies to go now!
been toying with the idea of doing the calipers red to bring a little color to the outside. cut out some cardboard and painted them red the same size as the calipers to stick in the wheels and get a visual. it really is almost too much contrast with the all silver and black outside, but does tie it in nicely when hood is open. i just don't drive that way. lol

Wow, that came out awesome.. I really like the red wrap on the intake tubes. Great job A-Z on the planning and execution!
I've seen your car over at P-T.com also, I go by Whistler over there and most other forums(it was taken here) I Used to work at Pr**igy and have worked on countless pro-touring 67-9s so I have a special appreciation for the skill and patience involed with your build. Best of luck with it!

Nice looking engine bay)) ....... very neat .... the red color due not come through right . maybe the blitz? .... some of the close-up pic. earlier in the thread show the right red and I guess your wrapping is the same color
My intake tubes both of them - have a hole in the size of a thumb underneath near the engine ..... it could be for when the motor have been "moving" when speeding up.
