SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Performance Suspension Alternatives for SL55
Need some help. My Cuz's SL55's Air suspension is leaking again and this is getting really tiring to replace agin and again as it keeps breaking down.
is there any way to replace the OEM air suspension with coilovers and program the car or bypass the sensors so it doesnt give us an air ride failure error?
The OEM Hydraulic suspension is a pain and has got to go.
but, it seems they figured out how to trick the computer (which would be the toughest part anyways). i would talk to them about that part and see if they would sell just that portion. then you could find a coilover of choice by searching for correct extended and compressed heights. take out stock coil and test pressure and use as a baseline to match the new coil on the new coilover.
it is on my list of things to do, but who knows if i would ever get around to it. that is till mine start leaking and acting up, lol.
A coilover conversion hasn't been done yet on the R230 chassis, according to my knowledge. It would be a complicated and costly solution.

Thanks for all the help guys. Lets keep this thread going and find a solution for the community.
get it fixed and enjoy the best of smooth ride, great high speed directional stability, flat cornering and no dive at aggressive braking.
if you are technically capable of swapping the whole suspension then you are prolly capable of repairing the stock abc suspension too. get if fixed.
my 2 cents

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I have no doubt that a majority of the service $$ that Mercedes makes on the models above is based off ABC-related repairs.
It's absolutely something that should not be an issue on a $100,000 car. It's faulty engineering....bottom line.

Oh and if the car doesnt have sways then converting to Coils might be a bit difficult but do-able. The main issue would be to convert the ABC pump to a regular PS system. It'll take a bit of time but its not impossible.
