Replacing the ABC Tandem Pump Problems
Well I thought I could do it but I guess I have failed...
After researching the process I thought it would be challenging but definitely dueable. I have the big tools (Car Lift / DAS) and the WIS procedure on removing the pump and million of things surrounding it.
I followed the procedure and have removed
- bottom plastic covers
- right side coolant line
- fan shroud
- power steering reservoir
- ABC reservoir
Then I started removing the pump. The following items were removed from the pump;
- pulley cover and 3 screws holding it
- accessory belt tensioner (bought a new one along with a belt as part of this maintenance process)
- 2 screws holding pump to block
- 1 screw on oil pan
- 1 banjo bolt
- 2 rubber lines on the top with clips
This leaves me with the high pressure line marked 30i in the shop document and for the life of me I can not remove it.
Right behind it is a bolt from the brace holding the pump to the oil pan and I cant seem to remove the pump without removing it first.
Please advise. I appreciate all of your time and help.
Thank you,
Edin

Thanks, I will try that tonight and give you an update if it worked. I have read that some people had to do that but the Mercedes Document does not mention it or at least the version of WIS that I have does not mention it.

I was going to comment on it but i was not sure how different the removal process is on the V8. On the R230 you don't even need a lift. Line wrenches definitely help with the hard lines and an additional wrench to use as leverage since they are pretty tight. Good luck.

Sounds as if you still have air in the lines. I would suggest purchasing the star das software or contacting someone who has it locally. This will allow you to do the RODEO and add fluid as necessary. Also with the software you can confirm pressures. Keep in mind that if you don't flush properly after a pump replacement, the dirt particles can damage the new pump.
