Ready for a little winter slumber......

With winter here and the likely event that my car will stay covered and nestled away for periods of time longer than I want...I recently installed a battery tender kit that I purchased on eBay. (I purchased both the charger and the comfort indicator panel.)

I decided to go with the Ctek CK7002 unit. Ctek makes the factory Benz unit. It is model CK3300.

Here is some info on the unit direct from the ctek site.

www.smartercharger.com

CTEK Multi US 3300

Our most popular, flexible and versatile smarter charger

The MULTI US 3300 (Part No. 56-158) is a versatile battery charger in a compact format that makes it convenient and easy to charge and maintain all household vehicles. The special cold mode means that you can also charge during cold winters days without problems.
Perfect for car, vintage car, personal water craft, boats with one battery, boats with start & service battery, scooter, motorcycle, Quad/ATV, lawnmower, caravan, and tractor.
Includes two interchangeable connection leads, one with clamps, and one with eyelet terminals

CTEK Multi US 7002

Our most universal, unique and technologically advanced smarter charger

The MULTI US 7002 (Part No. 56-353) is the ideal battery charger for your caravan, car and boat. The battery charger is well suited for all-year use. Thanks to its SUPPLY mode the battery charger provides power even without a battery. The SUPPLY mode is indispensable when changing the battery as you avoid losing complicated program settings.
Perfect for vintage car, boats with one battery, boats with start & service battery, boats with start & service bank, scooter, motorcycle, Quad/ATV, lawnmower, caravan, and tractor.
Includes two interchangeable connection leads, one with clamps, and one with eyelet terminals.

CTEK Comfort Indicator Panel

Easy access for viewing for those ‘hard to get’ to batteries

CTEK Comfort Indicator Panel (Part No. 56-380) is designed and developed to make the maintenance of the battery in the vehicle easy and convenient. Comfort Indicator Panel easily shows the status on the battery and makes sure that the battery can always get the care it needs. It is perfectly suited in the standard panel on the vehicle. CTEK Comfort Indicator Panel can prolong the life expectancy of the battery as it makes sure it can always be fully charged and it indicates when the harmful sulfation process begins.
Designed to fit UC 800, US 800, MULTI US 3300, MULTI US 7002, US 0.8, and MUS 4.3 battery chargers.

Feedback...

1. The CK3300 would work just fine. They are all over eBay for around $60+.

2. The MB part is identical inside with just a MB label...$140 not worth it for the same unit in my opinion.

3. The CK7002 may have been a bit more than needed but it was only around $100 and far superior to the CK3300. I figured with the electrical system being touchy on these cars I would go the extra mile.

4. No matter the one you choose, the comfort panel with readout and hookup is great and a must. It was a very clean install and I highly recommend it if you are in need of a tender. $20 is a bargin. They have other pig-tail type indicators but I wanted something cleaner looking and that I had easy access to.

Here are some photos of my install..

Do you keep a charger on both batteries? Separate circuits according to past searches/info......

2006 sl55 030 option - sold
Im just about to buy a battery charge set-up(but first I need a new trunk battery) . I like what you did there. Do you leave your trunk open when you plug in and charge rear battery?????
What about front battery??

The circuits are separate and you need two after looking at lots of posts on this subject......and Mercedes has also advised this......
