SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: FTP 55K Intake System

FTP 55K Intake System
So,
I wanted to test out the Fabtech=Performance intake to see what the gains would be on my 03 SL55. Well to put it short...I like it
Everything on the car is stock except the intake. No tune or anything yet.
Dynos are done....Things to know about the sheets are as follows in order:
-Sheet 1-stock intake with 6 smoothing
-Sheet 2-stock intake with 60 smoothing
-Sheet 3-FTP intake with 6 smoothing
-Sheet 4-FTP intake with 60 smoothing
Stock intake run
FTP Intake Runs
-The shop owner said that his mustang dyno reads 11% lower than a dynojet.
If my calculations are correct by dividing by .82 to get crank Horsepower the numbers are:
Stock intake 409 horsepower 458ft/lbs torque
FTP intake 419 horsepower 569ft/lbs torque
So dynojet numbers would look like the this:
Stock intake 454 horsepower 508 ft/lbs torque
FTP intake 508 horsepower 632 ft/lbs torque
SOOOOO. The intake helps to pick up crazy torque.

Stock numbers for a SL55 should be 493 hp and 515 torque. But it seems like all the stock 55k engines here put out considerably less when you calculate a 15% drivetrain loss.

Pretty sweet! (and thanks for sharing too!)
No doubt FTP's gonna get a few orders more because of this post.
Can you share what the retail cost of this was and how difficult/easy it was to swap in?

"So dynojet numbers would look like the this:

Are you really claiming a gain of 62hp and 124ft/lb?
This "vendors" greatest skill seems to lie with manipulating dyno numbers...lol.

LOL - I didn't read too much into that part because I seriously doubt it BUT the intake LOOKS GREAT & SOUNDS GREAT! I may do dyno tune in the spring BUT I am having so many things done to the car right now that it won't reflect any sort of stock numbers for comparison.

Something doesn't seem right, but maybe Im not understanding.
The links posted to the dyno sheets are showing 336 HP in stock form. Ive never had mine dyno'ed, but from what Ive read stock they should dyno around 400-410 HP. Taking away 11% for the mustang dyno at even the lowest estimate (400) should yield 356 HP.

Although many many others will warn you of that guy, I personally have no problem with him or his shop. His inexperience is glaringly obvious but can't blame him for trying to get paid anyway.
However in regards to the power claims here, someone is either entirely full of **** or there are errors made in testing. It does absolutely not in any situation whatsoever, cause the engine to produce that much more power.

Actually looks simple enough. I do not even care which dyno is was ran on. Just going by the one in which it was ran, it showed an 8HP/91Tq increase. No need to get into what other dynos would read. Nice gains for just an intake..

That is something I would need to see with my own eyes on my own car to be honest. Curious to know how much that intake costs. Looks like it should help. 91tq is an insane claim though....

'05 SL 55 Black/Black w/mods from Eurocharged/Kleemann/BuckheadImports
Is this intake compatible with the Eurocharged TB?
Is this intake compatible with the 82 mm Eurocharged Throttle Body that I've had on my SL 55 for a while now? Is anyone else planning to buy this and have their car dyno'd? If even 3/4's of the claimed gains are true than its worth $910 bucks....

It should work with a larger tb. I plan to get one soon. I was shocked by the power difference too. I do plan to go to a dynojet when I get time to. The car does sound different and revs easier since the install.

I have it installed on 82mm T/B. You may want to tell FTP when/if you order it what size your T/B is just to be sure. I don't have the EC T/B so I can't speak to the fitment just because the EC T/B has an adapter plate on it & I don't know if that will cause problems with the back of the intake sticking up to far?
I will be posting pictures in my build thread in the next day or two of it installed on my T/B.
Also I ordered the polished version as well but plan on testing my IATs & may end up wrapping it if the results come back with high IATs... this won't happen until it gets warmer out here though but something else to keep in mind

Intake
It is a very attractive , impressive , mean looking intake but these power & torgue gains or claims are HIGHLY questionable.. I'd like to see some other testing and I agree with "Thericker" right on Bro

Interested in this product from Fabtech Performance.
I have a 82 mm intake already, but the stuff fram that point and "out" is stock on my car except from K&N filter. You guys think it's going to add some hp, or is it just for the looks and sound?

I wonder if the supercharger just engaged sooner on the +91 tq run.

Well, I'm about to pull the trigger on one of those intakes.
I don't expect any drastic performance gains, maybe som extra HP and a nicer sound.
I expect to have it at home in about 3-4 weeks. Will let you know the end result.

Do you mind doing a before/after dyno on the same day with the same dyno? Would certainly help FTP sell a lot more intakes

Sorry, I do not think I will be able to du such a test, for sure it would be nice but it is a bit tricky for me to pull off.
Well, I'll call my local tuning shop and se if what they say and what the cost will be.
