Well, you can see for yourself:

1. The new BBS RX-R 20x9 et34 is listed for SL55 - it has 3mm less room on the inside than 9.5 et25;

2. Also OZ Superturismo LM 19x8.5 et38 is listed for SL55 - it has identical clearance on the inside as 9.5 et25. (I'm actually surprised it clears the calipers being 38 instead of usual 30-32.)

So yes, I'm sure it would clear on the inside. Of course it was also stated some where above that 9.5 et45 does too, so if you would try fitting 9.5 et40 without any spacers it should definitely(?) fit too, but I think you already tried it and would not have started this thread if it would fit.

Just curious where did you find these wheels with specs?

The Tire Rack. Keep in mind that they are conservative in posted fitments, so if a wheel is listed it unquestionably fits a given application. And if you would use any wheel offset calculation tools available online, you would see that 9.5" et25 has identical "inner" positioning to those as I previously stated. To take it even further, even 9.5" et28 (which means you would need only a 12mm spacer - 24556659) should clear as it would be at he same inside position as 9" et34, while at the same time be as close to 100% fender flush as possible. It all could be a mute point as someone posted that 9.5" et45 fits. I personally highly doubt that, but the question that I still have for you is: did you actually try fitting your 9.5" et40 wheels? If et45 claim is correct, then you do not need any spacers.

Maybe a little more information of the wheels will make this clearer.

The wheels are off a newer Audi like i said earlier, and the backspacing is 7", typical benz wheels hover around 6"-6.38". 6.38" is the biggest i found on those BBS RX-R.

And yes i did test fitted those on the SL, and they didn't even clear the calipers because the backspacing of the wheels is too much.

I am going to order H&R 15mm 30556659, and try fitting them on. Like you said, i had used the offset calculator and got what exactly you provided. 15mm puts 3mm extra clearance on the suspension side. But i am just not sure if the backspacing come into play.

However, after all this researching, i know 20mm spacers will guarantee to work. But somehow i don't wheels poking pass fenders. So 15mm spacers will do for now, if it still doesn't clear the suspension, i will just stack a 5mm on top of the 15mm.

Thank you so much for you help

Once you fit the wheels, please let us know the details. I'm sure many people would like to know for sure if 9.5" et25 fits front.

Turns out I was wrong the whole time lol. Took off my Brabus wheels today to install my HRE's and found out there were some spacers on there back and front. I'm guessing these were for E class fitment and the previous owner threw on some spacers on there to make it fit.

Do not worry. It came as no surprise to those of us who understand this "staff". I have to give you credit for admitting it...finally.

haha yah. For offset 40, there is no way you can fit them in the front.

I ended up ordering 15mm and cleared suspension side but probably 3mm needed to clear calipers side.

But safe to say, 19x9.5 offset 20, will definitely clear suspension and calipers. However, you will have a massive poke.

Anyhow, decided not to use those Audi wheels anymore. Now i have a pair of brand new H&R 15mm hubcentric spacers for sale.

Let me know if anyone is interested, thank you.

Do you know if wheels that fit a SL65 will fit the new SL63 R231.
