I like the new rectangular tipps...

The R231 would look 1,000,000 times better w/2009-2012 Headlights & body panels. Only thing to keep would be Engine/Trans/new lightweight alum chasis/Interior the rest of the 2013 is fit for scrap bin..

From the back it now ALMOST looks like an R230.

Still too "feminine" though with the wavy taillights.

It really looks great. I can't stand the squarish new tips... but then again, I guess MB simply HAD to change it, as it really looks like a R230 AMG SL with the ovale tips.

C'mon the back of that R231 looks no different to a R230. OK that's my
opinion, but Mercedes are too worried to go for something different, just
like the 911. I do mean the 230 AMG of course.

Before you all jump on me, I realise the 231 has awful rectangular tail
pipes, but with the oval pipes , as I say the difference to the 230 is negligible.

I totally agree, if my 63 had the bi-turbo engine and some lighter panels
I would have kept it forever, even with just turbos added.

A few days a ago I saw a silver SL63 AMG R231 on the Autobahn.

Although I am a fan of the 230 I must admit, the 231 AMG looks great when you see it on the street and from different angles. A LOT more modern than the 230 and in my opinion the squarish exhaust tips fit perfect to the whole "sharper" design.

Maybe it takes some time to get accustomed to the new details.

When MB launched the 230 in early 2000 it was a revalation, and totally
different to the previous model. Now you don't go changing that shape
for a long time. But after 10 years suely they can do better, of course it's
nice, it's stil a good looking car. I think Aston is the same, boring but nice.
Other continental brands try harder, but while MB stick to relatively the
same shape I won't be changing, that's why I bought a 2007 SL65 and sold
my SL63 which I think Mercedes had tried to make look different.
When you bring out you either play safe and keep it similar for the old
stick in the mud, or go for something more outreageous.

Sorry this is an old thread but I have to add something.
I didn't know but the exhaust system on my SL63 231 is not joined to the square tail trims ah la Audi R8. In fact it is a single large oval end, blowing
down a funnel and through the square tips, a right dogs dinner, and from
the start the farting chuffing noise has annoyed me. Has the 231 with oval tips actually connected to the exhaust, if it is does it sound better ?
I will definitely get mine done.

Are the oval pipes joined to the body, or are they joined to the exhaust system.
