Battery Issue

I own a MB SL55 amg 2004. I took the car to get a touch up on the paint. When I picked up the car a red battery light with a Plus and minus sign lit up. Also a message that I should drive the car to mb shop immediately. Then the temp gauge went up. I stopped the car recharged the new battery, but the same problem came up again. Any suggestion?

I think the first thing i would check is the drive belt since you seem to have a charging and cooling problem at the same time. I would definitely have the car checked out asap. Good luck.

Yes. One of your plastic pulleys is toast and your belt is laying on the floor in the engine compartment.

This morning after I posted here I checked again both batteries voltage and both were low. Even with the car turned on, both of them gave a low voltage. At least the belts seemed ok from what I could see. It is on its way to the workshop so I will let you know.

Both batteries low means no charging. Water temp goes up means no water pump. Both are driven by a belt. It has to be a slipping/ derailed/ whatever belt not turning the accessories.

That's what I was thinking. Even though normally when a belt is slipping or derailed it would make a noticeable sound. This morning it sounded as usual.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
very basic electrical problems are easy to solve. almost every auto parts store has free electrical diagnostic service. Because they can sell batteries and alternators when they find something bad.
Electrical diagnostic units hook up to the car and determine if the battery is good or bad, and then determine if the alternator is good or bad.
easy 5 minute job.
