I'm looking at buying a 2006 SL65 AMG and had a question about the badging of it. On all the ones I have seen here it says V12 Bi Turbo above the gills on the side of the car. The one I'm looking at just says V12 in the gills. have a picture I'll try to upload it tonight. I'm just wondering if anyone has an explanation for that?

Perhaps you are looking at a SL600, not a SL65.

Lots of mis-badged cars and fake AMG rolling around out there. Best bet is to run the VIN and make sure it comes back a true AMG SL65. Could be a 55 badged as a 65, could be a 600 or even worse a 500 badged as a 65. There are other things you can look for but if you do not know what you are looking at then you are out of luck. A simple Carfax inquiry should tell you what you need to know.

Post up some pics and we can help you out, good luck with your purchase.

Yep, just check the VIN, which you should be doing anyways if it is a car you're looking at buying, and that should tell you what it is. If it is a SL65, maybe the owner removed that last part cause he liked it better. Good luck.

funny thing is that a lot of Europeans order their cars debadged so that others won't know what they have.

That means no AMG SL65 on the trunk. I think it is impossible to have all the AMG logos off the car entirely

V12 in the fender grill is a SL600, V12Biturbo above the fender grill is a SL65 AMG assuming they aren't fakes

All SL65s are WDBSK then 79 for the model...
Easy to tell ALL SL65s chassis numbers start with WDBSK then 79 for the model 65...

The SL55 is WDBSK-74
SL500 is WDBSK-75
SL600 is WDBSK-76
SL550 is WDBSK-71
SL63 is WDBSK-70

The last two make no sense because they are later models with a lower number!

Gawd, I hope they weren't advertising it as an SL65.
