Anyone here come from a 996 or 997 twin turbo to an AMG, or considering going to one? I've been thinking about that lately, motortrend thinks that since the 997 Turbo S was hitting 60 in 2.6 or 2.7 seconds, then this enhanced Turbo S with its faster transmission and more power should hit 60 MPH in 2.5 seconds....and the last 997 hit the 1/4 mile in 10.9 seconds, so any predictions on this all new one? 10.6 seconds maybe?
If anyone here is getting one when they come out please let us know about the driving impressions and how it feels in comparison to driving an AMG...

I had 2 996 turbos, the last being a 2002 GT2. Before that numerous 930s.
The TurboS is remarkable. 0-60 comparable to a Veyron and Aventador. What a deal, especially with Porsche quality and dependability.

I have a 997.2 turbo cab with PDK. I can only imagine what the 991 turbo (s) will be capable of. The only problem is price. The 991 turbo will be significantly more expensive than the 997.2 turbo. I think.
Also I don't think 991 and amgs are cross shopped. Different breed, different philosophy.

ps: I'm currently helping my son in finding a used 997 Turbo, or possibly another GT2.

You really should not cross shop cars that differ in the fact that one can be taken to the track and the other has no place there.
The 911 lineup is telepathic chasis, track- honed behavior and tradition. The other is a heavy, understeering, isolated and fluffy gt best used on your trip to another planet and back. At light speed.
In my mind there is no basis for comparison. But... Whatever rocks your boat
I am sure your mileage will vary

MBWorld Fanatic!
It's "slower" but I prefer the 991 GT3...looks more aggressive to me than the Turbo S for some reason.

I like forced induction cars, boost is like adrenaline.
Guess I don't understand the "cross shopping" negativity. I like lots of cars, and obviously some are better at tracking than cruising. I don't see them as mutually exclusive, just different. I tracked the Porsches, but have no interest in tracking the SL. Way too heavy and soft suspension, even if an AMG. Fun in a straight line or with the top down, however.

Don't know if that is really relevant in the U.S.
But I testdrove various 996 Turbos before I decided to go with the V12-AMG. I did not like the feeling in the Porsche at higher speeds from 250 KM/H and higher. You will notice the light front and that the heavy engine is in the back of the car.
The AMG is still calm and more stable at higher speeds. For me that is a big advantage of a front motor car. Although it is much heavier and a more luxury oriented car...
