SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: New member and new order questions
This has been a great site to review and very helpful as I make my selections for a SL55.
I just placed an order for a 2005 SL55. I am first at my dealer for a SL55 and have a long year to wait. I could get a 2004 but I have a lease ending on another vehicle about 12 months from now. And if there is a change to the front-end for MY2005 I will have the latest update. If no change to front-end I will still go with the 2005.
I had a chance to test drive a 55 last week and was extremely impressed. In the past I had a Boxster S and a M3 Cab. The acceleration and feel was closer to the M3 vs the Boxster but the SL55 was much more a solid ride than the M3 cab which always felt a bit 'loose'. The SL55 exhaust note is much better than both of these other cars. The Boxster is actually rather quiet and the M3 doesn't crank up until 4000-5000 rpms. The overall engineering, technology, and just the look of the car exceeds these other fine cars (and it costs twice as much).
I am going to order brilliant silver with the red interior. I need a chance from black and grey interiors and the red looks nice in pictures. I will see one in person in about a month with the next shipment of cars coming to my dealer. This looks like a real red vs the terra-cotta looking red in the Porsche line.
I will likely order most options except the distronic and pana roof.
So, my question....can you order the berry red interior but get black carpet? (I am in the US). This look would be similar to the SLR and Mille edition. Porsche does allow you to order deviating carpet with a red interior. Will MBUSA do this? If they will do this what do you think of this color choice?
Silver/Berry red is a quite rare combination in the UK but I think a good choice. Dont know why its so rare as the silver/red combo on the SLK is popular here. If you order the berry red interior you get red carpets but you can fit black overmats. In fact black mats are a good idea for the winter season.
Paul said it all, the dark grey mats are a good idea for winter, the red ones really show the dirt.

Berry red is not as safe a choice as grey in terms of re-sale and I can see that less red might be good; the only issue I have is that it looks brown through the car's tinted windows in some lights and I have had one person mention to me "nice car, but why the brown seats?"
What's certain is that it only works with some exterior colours - silver and black, I saw it against a powder blue a couple of weeks ago and it looked terrible.
The pictures posted above look good and I think the more vibrant red against a black canvas works well.
