Took my new SL63, non PP, to the dragstrip last night. 1088 miles on the odo. DA 1700. Only got 2 runs in but ran a 12.0 on a rather poor 2.065 60'. Trap speed 119.

That's what I was thinking. Not bad for a stock car that's barely broken in.

mercedes c250, 08 vette blown with meth (680 rwhp)
You will have a lot more in cooler weather. You only are gaining 20 mph on the back half, should be about 27 to 30 mph. your car is heat soaking and timing is being pulled out on the top end. My vette is running 140 thru the traps and I had to add meth to keep the IAT's down, mine was doing the same thing. Before the 1000 ft. mark mine was pulling 11.5 out the 12 degrees of timing I had.

Good start! It'll only get better and better with practice! Get your 60's down and you'll be mid to higher 11's!

Not yet. It's still in its break-in period. 700 out of 1200 miles down. BMW's break in is a little different. After 1200 miles you change out the break in fluids in the engine, tranny, and diff. They also disable break-in mode in the ECU. Right now things like launch control are disabled until that's done. The car isn't "unlocked" yet. As soon as that's done I'll have them to the track. Probably both on the same day. I'll get a buddy to drive one down so I can run them same day.

Good safety feature in the ecu.
Nice toys, can't wait to see them both side by side, take some video if possible.

That was me. #74. We were thinking the same thing, losing power on the top end. Going to do some data logging this Friday and see what we see. I'm non-PP but running an OE Tune, so it should be giving it all it's got. The data logging I was able to do during this run showed IATs of 174 while staging. It was hot, but not that hot.

I just left Frisco last night and yes hot as heck there. 174 it pretty darn high. I really believe in meth injection. I have it on my turbo hayabusa and the vette. Its good insurance.

I just saw this on Dragtimes.com today.
Very nice. I was thinking the same thing, you can do A LOT better 60'. Get that down and you're in the 11.70s and thats pretty awesome. Z06 territory right there.

Good luck and keep us updated when you go back.

Nicely done. Going for the first time at a drag strip on Friday with CLS.
How did you launch?
I would think traction off, about 2RPM brake hold and feather the throttle? Am I close?
Down here in FL and being a noob, I hope to be in the low 12s.

I picked up a '13 SL63 P30 car a couple weeks ago with the 255 AMG performance media option which lets you really refine your launch technique (gives you 0-60, 1/4mi/trap, among other things). I haven't been to the track yet, but I would imagine the numbers are pretty close to reality. I usually run 3.8-4.2 0-60 and 11.8-12.2 @ 122-124mph on non prepped surfaces on the stock Conti CSC 5P's. Best results have been loading it up a little bit off the brake running in S+ mode with TC fully on or in sport mode. If you spin with TC on it cuts power and if you spin with it off you lose time.

Interestingly, leaving the car is full ECO/comfort mode (starting in 2nd gear) its as fast/faster than the slow times in full sport (~4.1 0-60). Traction is the limiting factor as you just can't put 664 lb ft down to a 20" street tire (I have the 10 spoke forged 19/20" wheel option). You should get a huge improvement going to drag radials.

Interesting. In a drag race, I think the only downside of Comfort mode would be reduced shift times. This could be countered though by switching to S+ right after the rpms are past 5k or so, to avoid a downshift and gain the fast shifting through 3rd and 4th. As far as launching at full throttle in Comfort, I know the MCT in my C will downshift to 1st gear if you pass the detent in the pedal, but don't think it will downshift unless you pass that point. If that's the case, I can see how you could launch in 2nd gear at full throttle and have TC completely disabled since DRs in a 2nd gear launch would probably never slip.

Did your pre-loading help with bogging?
