I've recently purchased a loud fat Italian car (2001 Diablo). My immaculate well cared for SL65 is for sale. Wife won't let me keep both.

I can bring the car to Monterey tomorrow (Friday 8/16) if anyone is in the area and would like to take a look.

That is one incredible 65, if I lived in the States I would buy it tomorrow.

Beautiful SL65 showroom condition.

Seems like most of life's itches involve a woman or a car

To be honest, I'm not driving the SL much anymore due to a change in my work hours. I now commute during rush hour and have joined a carpool. Since I don't drive the SL I decided to get a car that is more of an 'event' to drive.

True. But let me add that the itch from a car does not require a visit to the doctor.

good luck. car is priced right on the money.

i hope the diablo is the 6 liter one. the diablos are quite pathetic when it comes to driving dynamics, but at least the 6.0 is marginally better.

Thanks Alx,

Yes it is a 6.0. Sure the car has flaws, but it makes the SL look like a Crossover/SUV when parked side by side (and the SL is lowered in this photo). The SL65 is a far superior car in almost every way expect it doesn't have the passion and WTF of the Diablo.

oh, absolutely- the diablo is a true supercar.

it is like your favorite split personality girlfriend... nice to be seen with, great in bed for about an hour, loud and fast... but... other than that- pain in the *** and plenty of reasons why not take her to your mom.

women and cars.. they are so close actually philosophically- not even funny.

Nothing wrong with that opinion on this forum. I just got back from Concorso Italiano in Monterey where there many others who would disagree. I was able to view the Diablo side by side with its brothers the Countach, Murcielogo and Aventador (Miura is really not the same kind of car). I prefer the Diablo's styling. Keep in mind I didn't buy the Diablo because I thought it is better than the SL65. I just wanted something different in the garage.

Both nice cars in every regard. Total opposite ends of the spectrum. In the 65 your pretty much driving around undercover. 90% of the general public doesn't have a clue of what the car is capable of. To them an SL is an SL. Sometimes that's nice! In the Diablo you might as well be coming down the road in an F16! At times that can be a lot of fun! Your parting with the SL right after you did all the cool upgrades. If you aren't going to go along with LukasBMW's sugestion, what's the wife drive? Maybe she should be in a nice designo graphite edition SL65?

I fully understand, I have some old classics as well, inc a Sierra Cosworth.
I would love a 575 Marinello. Driving these older cars really is driving

Still for sale. Price reduced to $82,000. Don't forget this car comes with a Platinum Warranty from Fidelity Warranty Services. Try and buy a warranty now on a 2009 SL65. Most places won't insure a V12 Mercedes.

My SL65 is sold. Its going to a dealer in Reno NV. For the first time since 1995 I don't own a Mercedes. I started with a 1975 450SEL in NY, in CA I bought a 1989 560SEL, then added a 1998 CL600. Sold both and got a SL65 in 2011. I loved all four. Each very much a Mercedes. The car I'm missing the most today is the 1989 560SEL. It was a perfect everyday do errands around town car or go on a long trip with friends and luggage. The SL65 is very fast, comfortable and very versatile. But once I started driving it less and it was just sitting in the garage it lacked the flash that an occasional car needs.

I'm thinking it won't be long before I add another Mercedes. My Ranger pickup is getting old and giving me problems. Thinking I'll replace it with a G55 or E63 wagon.

90% do not know what an SL65 is capable of? I totally Disagree!

Someone posted that 90% of the people do not know what an SL65 is capable of. That is a ridiculous statement.

Most Mercedes people do not know how fast an SL65 is and in reality most exotic car guys (Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo etc) don't really respect any Mercedes except maybe an SLR. Everyone knows that a Mercedes is just a big heavy luxury cruiser (which they are) and that AMGs are very fast for a cruiser.

But the truth is 99% of the people have absolutely no idea how insanely fast those big heavy luxury cruisers are (in a straight line) until 5 seconds after the light turns green and they still can't catch Grandpas cruiser while in their exotic super cars!

I once ran a guy in a Viper and he was amazed at how fast the SL65 was! I have also spanked Porsches, Lambos and Ferraris over the years.

The trick to beating most exotic super cars (I said most not all) in the SL65 is to draw them in and start the race when already rolling at 20-25MPH. Like on a freeway on ramp. Getting a good Launch from a dead stop with any AMG V-12 is nearly impossible because they are always fighting the traction control which backs down power and applies the brakes and cannot be turned totally off. But at 20+MPH the monster is already alive and almost no other car can stay with you up to about 120MPH!

My SL65 was re mapped, incredibly quick only let down by the gearbox,
my new SL63 bi turbo has also been re mapped, and is even quicker than
the 65, and it has the gearbox to take it.
I recently drove a Ferrari 575 and a 430, both SL's would kill them, the
flappy paddle gearbox was dreadful and the ride on the 430 was appalling, it
felt like a badly put together kit car, rattle and shake. The Ferrari's did look
nice though.
