Other than the obvious front bumper and different wheels, how can you tell if an SL55 is a real P030 performance pkg car? Is there something in the VIN #? What years was the option available?

I see a few cars for sale out there, even '03's & '04's that have the right bumper and wheels but the dealers don't have a clue what I'm talking about when I ask about the option. Heck, most don't list normal options like Distronic or Keyless Go.

front brakes must be 390mm (same size as SL65 ) and the top speed must be 300Km/h

you should go to a dealer and have them look up the vin # and see what it has. and you should never buy one of these cars untill you have it taken to a mb dealer and completely inspected so you will know the condition it is in and what it needs
but they have alcantara grip steering wheel, shift knob, 2 piece front brake rotors

P30 started in 06 then 07 08 for the 230 sl55. There is no 03-05 P30 sl55.

In europe at least the Performance package was released in August 2003.

My sl55 with 030 has the Alcantara steering wheel but not the shift knob.
Large brake rotors in front .It took me a bit to find it , but was very happy when I did. I found my car due to this forum.
So if your looking for one , take your time. There out there

Get your dealer or a friend with an EPC subscription to pull the data card - that will tell you if the car has the performance option.

This is my 07 SL55 w/030. The package from Mercedes Benz is a $14K option as noted on the window sticker

The 030 option was $14K in the US and included:

19" AMG two-piece alloy wheels and staggered-width tires

Active Body Control (ABC) with AMG “Nürburgring” calibration

AMG compound front brakes

AMG locking differential

AMG Formula One “Safety Car” front apron

186-mph top speed

Thanks for all the feedback! Any way to find out production numbers? Curious as if it was only available from '06 to '08 and each of those years only had 860, 583 & 464 SL55's produced respectfully, there can't be that many floating around out there.

I was told that 70 were made with 030 option in 2006 and if you start looking at colors and options I;m sure it would be less.
Are you thinking of buying one , what color?
I just did front brakes on mine and the rotors were $900 each at my cost.

Was considering one that is Silver with 48k miles but I've really had my heart set on black.

That's what mine had on it when I bought it. It took me 6 months to find it and I think I got lucky. They are getting older so that may help in your search

What other options does yours have? I'm finding that the cars with 030 pkg typically did not have a lot of other options like Distronic, Parktronic, etc.

Kind of debating if I want the 030 pkg or a fully loaded regular S55.

mine does not have distronic or Bluetooth.
It does have parking sensors and now Bluetooth set up installed.
other than distronic not sure what other option it would not have. I think the rest are standard Like massage , heated and cooled seats , navigation , rain sensing .
Oh wait , I don't have a spare tire. I do have tire monitoring system.

Designo Paint & Interior Trim

I'm sure there are more but can't seem to find a definitive source.

I have most options , I don't have distronic or carbon fiber trim.
not sure about design paint and trim ,so no on that as well.
The rest I have.
I think most cars with 030 option will have most of those options.

I too was partial to black cars until my wife convinced me she liked the contrast of the Panorama Roof to the Iridium Silver and the details. Black is very elegant/nice but the details seem to disappear. Whatever you do, just make sure you buy an extended warrantee

If you decide to buy the one with the low miles , remember its about time for front brakes and the rotors are a bit for the front of that car. get the vin number and call the dealer for a price. That way you will know.
Check for a Bluetooth system , That would be nice.

I agree that the contrast of the pano roof on silver looks great but I'm a black car guy at heart. My current daily driver is a silver C230 and although it's super easy to take care of, having two silver cars in the garage just isn't an option. The SL55 will be a weekend only car will likely never see rain or snow again. In the end, my plan is to make it look similar to the one below which gives me a stiffy every time I see it:
