I must be mad, but I hanker for another 230 SL55 AMG.
People say how can you prefer a SL55 over your SL63 bi turbo.
I never realised how tuneable the SL55, over 600 bhp I have seen.
I have seen a red one with pebble interior and 13k miles up for 29k.
Trouble is they want to give me 78k for a car that cost 122k 9 months ago,
now with 3k on the clock, they look like they are fetching 90 grand easy.
My wife says by a new kitchen instead, what a waste, nothing wrong
with the one we got, same goes for the car she says.

The 63 biturbo is getting it's share of aftermarket tuning. With just an ECU upgrade you are looking at 670 hp/ 730 TQ at crank, so with 20 percent conservatism, thats still almost 540 BHP from an ECU upgrade alone. Turbo upgrades and ECU are gona get you another 150 hp from that. The 55 is an animal with all kinds of tuning options (its been around for 10 years), but don't sell that 63 biturbo short. It's just nuts!

SL55 are nowhere close in performance to the 63. Yours is an all around better car.
Plus R230's are dirt cheap to buy; just get one for fun. No reason to give up the SL63 due to money...
Also, I assume you are talking British Pound, not $. I assume there should be SL55's for less than that

I have had my 63 tuned to 650 bhp, it's ridiculously fast, it frightens me,
especially in sport mode, traction control button.
The 55 is never going to be as quick, it's a cruiser, would you agree that
the 63 Bi TT is less of a cruiser, when I had mine I never thought to tune it.
So although the 63 is quicker , the 55 can be tuned. The R230 had a sort
of presence that the 63 Bi TT doesn't seem to have. Also I have some new
Mandrus 20" wheels for 65 and 55, it would look great in red with these
wheels. If I could keep both I wouldn't know which one to drive, especially
with another 6 cars to use mainly classics, Cosworth and Mitsubishi Colt
Turbo modified for 200 bhp in a small box.
I'll just keep dreaming .

At that price you may pay another 16k to fix it. I have even seen one at

I like to get information and receive info. I have also had SL55,Sl63, SL65
and Sl63 Bi Turbo. So I am not all talk. I also get tired of cars quickly, and
can't settle with my 63. What impressed me was Rennie's Mars red SL55,
and to day I found one. 2003,56k miles up for 17 grand.
Shall I buy, yes it's good to ask forum members, particularly SL55 problems
with age. There are many subjects that get repeatedly posted, if they bother
you don't read them.

yes, and every time the new one is worlds better than the old one for x,y,z reason. I guess since you ran out of new models, you'll just circle back and start again. How about that ancient pos tranny in the SL55? that no longer bothers you. Originally Posted by sound 8

Your father has a SL55, so occasionally you read the forum
I suggest you read but don't write.
Basically your undermining the reason for a Forum, and sure your right,
I don't always buy new, and I get a kick buying old cars with faults,
especially when the good points out weigh them.

I don't think you are in any place to be making suggestions about...well, anything. Originally Posted by sound 8

Man you really don't like this guy do you! Well after having driven a supercharged SL63 for a longtime and then testing an SL55 for my girlfriend I have to say the SL55 felt like a pile of ****. To sound8 I would suggest that since you have tried almost every iteration of the modern SL that you get hold of the old 63 and whack a supercharger in it. Sounds a ****load better than either the biturbo models too.Originally Posted by Quadcammer

Low mileage cars with full MB service history 2005-2008 are fetching 30k.
Higher mileage older cars are going for 8k to 18k.
I went to see a red SL55, then I remember going to see the same car
over a year before. When I asked why he had it over a year he told me
he drives it
great way to own a 55 and selling it when someone
really offers good money.
Wish I was a car dealer
