Resonator delete info and a few pic's

Hey everyone, there's always questions about the resonator delete mod on Sl55's but there have been few threads with any pic's.

I found a few pic's from deleting my resonators on my phone so, I figured I'd share them here:

Resonators are circled in red:

Right side resonator on the car:

Holding up bypass pipe:

I really wish I had taken more pic's when I was working on this. Next time I have the car in the air I'll take some pic's of the resonator bypass pipes installed and post them in this thread.

The pipe I used to bypass my resonators were purchased from Summit Racing. They are 3" stainless 45degree bends:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-pvm59s/overview/
Summit Racing Part Number PVM59S

I purchased two of these pipes and they fit perfectly in place of the resonators. They are stainless steel, the same material used on the entire SL55 exhaust. I strongly recommend you use stainless to maintain the integrity of the original system.

I deleted my resonators when I had removed the exhaust to replace my engine mounts, flex disks, etc. It's not too bad to remove the entire exhaust from the car as shown in the first pic. This insures the entire exhaust can be welded, including the top section closes to the body. I know many have had the resonators deleted without removing the exhaust.

As everyone says the sound is absolutely amazing.

Hope this helps some people out.

Hoping to get it back later this week. Was having the Renntech lowering module fitted at the same time but one of the ABC rear struts needs replacing so waiting for remanufactured one to arrive from Germany!! Very frustrating as weather in UK has been unusually warm.

Had it done at PCS just north of Portsmouth. Rough cost was around £600. Is quite time consuming as they have to make a jig to ensure the pipe is smae shape as original. Are you based in the UK?

Yes,
I'm on the Surrey, Hants border so they are not too far away. I just have to sort my PSE pump out first as that failed the other day :-( Thanks for the info, Mike

Would definately recommend them for any work on Mercedes as Olly and his boys do a fantastic job and have reasonable labour rates. They also provide a courtesy car!!

Hey guys.. I was just wondering for the resonator delete.. VTVette's setup with a single 45 deg bend pipe looks like it will be at a bit more restrictive angle at the connection than JohnN's setup where it's two (or three) joined pipe sections..

Any comments on this? Does it matter? or is it just the angle of the picture that's throwing me off.

Cheers
