I want to pick up an 03 sl55 with 5 k miles or less for around 105k - looks like it's gonna happen

good luck.. so far I doubt you'll find a solid SL55 (well equipped) for under 115-120... someone may say prices are dropping, but where is the inventory? Apparently most speculators who weren't really intending to own/drive the cars for long are gone, and the number of vehicles really around seems to then have evaporated.
Part of this may be seasonality; though I suspect by next summer you'll find that price. I have a 2004 SL55 coming next week, but may keep my '03 SL55, due to it having more options than the '04 one (result of curious dealership error)... have not decided (mine is '03, black/gray, all options but distronic, and 4700 miles.... built in '03, not '02.)
Anyway, the one post talking about a big drop has one curiosity; where (anywhere) is there a low-mileage SL55 at a low price yet. The regular SL's are a little soft here and there, but not the 55's. At least that's what I think I'm seeing...

The SL600 may have some effect on SL55 pricing. I find it odd that the SL600 is almost ten grand more than the SL55 and all you really get extra is a wood steering wheel.

Over supply
Here in the UK prices are on the floor. year old cars selling for 70k in the trade. Full spec cars this year reg are 75k. way to many cars on the market.
Just brought new 996 Turbo Cab. Had to pay 10k over list.Very sporty drive. Only 100 RHD being built, 22 Tiptroinc.
Should hold list price for next year. Dont mind blowing the 10k over list but 30k as in the SL55 is just to much.
In my view the SL55 has now had its day, and prices are now finding the correct value as in the CL55 AMG.

I think that the price crashing is a myth. Every dealer that has an SL, 500 or 55, is still holding it close to MSRP. I suspect that they are still trying to maximize their profits being that the car is still in its model year. When January comes, prices will drop drastically.

Check out www.autotrader.co.uk That gives the real value of the SL55, as it's based on the actual Market, not some book.
I'll like to see you find a RHD SL55 "Full Spec" in the price ranges you've quoted.

I have bid on a few on ebay and recieved 3 offers already for well equiped SL55 - 03 cars for $110k
