Reasonable premium to pay for the 030 option on used SL55?

So, I'm thinking about getting back into a supercharged 55 car and I'm looking at 07 and 08 SL55s. What is the general opinion as to what dollar premium (if any) should be demanded for a car with the 030 option (65 wheels and air dam, composite brake package, 'ring suspension tune, Alcantra steering wheel, limited slip rear, limiter at 185)? the limiter part does nothing for me as I will most likely quickly be doing a pulley ECU / TCU tune so it will go away anyway. I do happen however to very much like the stock three piece 65 wheels and I know they alone are quite pricey. The car I am looking at also has every option available for the year.

it has nurburgring suspension, stiffer best option and LS diff and biggest brakes, well worth the money. Mostly they go for 4K to 5K more
so make the best deal for the car and downplay your interest in getting that option

Thanks for the feedback. BUT, I think I am leaning much more toward what you appear to be driving, an SL63 with a perf. package. Then in a little while add a Kleemann or Weistec supercharger

its almost as much punch as a 55, you hardly notice any difference. I think because of the superior MCT 7 speed trans with the sport settings.
But theres not much hp gains for the 6.3. Maybe with long tube headers, complete exhaust mod, free flow intake mods and a good ecu tune you may get in the high 500s, but for me, I wouldnt SC or turbo a engine thats not designed for it from the start

Not supercharging an NA engine has come up in a couple of threads now and not sure I understand it. Hoping not to hijack the thread, if so I will start another. I had been considering the Weistec emissions legal supercharger upgrade, around $13,000. I'd end up doing a few other things in addition to round it out (eg,LSD) so would be looking at around $20,000 in total. Site suggests 637 and 560 torque. Money for value seems ok compared to any other available options but concerned about comments around NA with SC mods.

okbarnett, would appreciate more insight into your comment so I don't possibly end up throwing a fairly sizable investment away.

Thanks

James

Its not for me. Maybe some people like it. No matter how you do it, turbo, SC , nitro, It does boost the engine to its max. You are going to get everything it has all at once.
You are sacrificing the engines longevity and not predictibly by how much. An engine that was designed with a SC or etc from the factory 'ideally" was designed to be a SC or turboed engine. On a MB or porsche or ferrari etc engine is specifically designed from start to finish with all the parameters to withstand specific stresses that are produced by the high pressures and temps that these systems produce. Besides , Ive seen several people buy "big name" add-ons and never be able to have the car run right again. Never stop spending time and money trying to make it run right.
Its not for me, I dont believe in it. If you get one, let us know how it works.

SL65
They are called "compound" brakes, not composite (they are not ceramics) because they are a 2-piece rotor (same as SL65 brakes). One thing to keep in mind is that replacement rotors are $900/ea vs ~$100/ea for regular ones and these cars do go through rotors if you drive hard.

Limited slip really should have been standard equipment on these cars... I'd say if you find a loaded 030 car 07-08, buy it. They are really hard to come by. And you decide to pass on it send it along to me

None. At that age condition is the biggest factor. The p030 package adds nothing to the value as far as the dealer is concerned.

If you meant "as far as the buyer is concerned" I'd agree. The dealer in this case definitely thinks 3-4k is a fair premium. It is after all not insignificant in that putting SL65 brakes and wheels as well as a limited slip on a non-030 car will set you back a lot more than that.

this is wishful thinking. when wholesaled the only option that bumps the value of an sl55 is distronic. and that one is a hit-or-miss.

what i am saying is that dealer cost is unchanged by p030. the retail consumer might be tricked into overpaying for it, but obviously mileage varies.

I may be selling my SL55 with 030 soon.
white/ grey
37k miles
ext warranty
pano roof

this is my third 55 and second with 030 and it's worth waiting to find the right car with 030 in my opinion.

Car in question is being brokered, but is a consignment. The dealer wants his $995 pound of flesh and could really care less about the actual sale price. The car in question also has every option that was available, period. Plus it's Diamond Metallic Silver with black NAPA so not the run of the mill SL55. I totally get that it doesn't wholesale much more but that is a totally different question than what it should retail for as most of us don't have the luxury of buying on the wholesale market. Again, I think it has to be weighed against the cost of the wheels, compound brakes and LSD if you want those as it will cost a whole lot more than a few grand to add them to a base SL55.

I'm also looking at selling my SL55. It is the Designo version with a unique paint colour, full leather interior and the desirable 030 performance pack. Its a beautiful pampered car as Mark Anderson well knows (it was his previous car) and is in absolutely superb almost new condition - is often taken for a new car! The colour is a magnificent pewter grey and it also has the desirable pano roof with sunshade. Its done only 20,000 pampered and garaged miles - no rain or snow for this car! We live in DC and have an ML550 for general running.

I'm a bit rushed tonight but should be able to put some pics up over the weekend.

David your car may be the only car I've regretted selling. As you know, within 6 months of you buying it I had to try to replace it. It's a very special car and I've never seen another one like it.

Reasonable premium to pay for the 030 option on used SL55?

Hi all, I originally posted a few months ago that I was contemplating selling my SL55 with Designo and 030 options. Well, its now a few months later and I am definitely selling so if anyone is interested please pm me. As Mark says above its a unique and superb car - feels almost new and certainly looks it! Only done 21700 miles and really is in fantastic condition. I'm in DC so if anyone is interested.......

David,

I'll be looking at a 2008 SL55 tomorrow. Seems like a nice car with less than
14k miles. Only down side is it's black which I'm not too happy about.
I's nearly impossible to find a used 55 that's not silver or black it seems.
Would you be interested in a CLS 55 AMG trade ?
Thought I'd ask since we're both logged in at the moment.
Here's the CLS. Pewter, 61k miles.

Sorry CLS. Nice car but I am returning to Australia shortly, so can't have a LHD car. Otherwise I can assure you that they would be burying me in this SL55!! I would not/not be selling!!
