URGANT - possible to replace R230 SL side door pocket armrest? job in progress...

Hi all! I have a lovely SL 55 here, I'm trying to replace the drivers side door armrest but to do the iv gotta acsess the hinge pin and I can't see a way to do this witough hacking away the moulded plastic plugs on the back of the door panel which i have got off with ease, any thoughts how to remove the arm rest top part from the pocket?

Thanks all

I've never had mine off, so I'm not familiar with the procedure..

What's wrong with yours?

See stain on link, its worse than it looks on there, no product will remove this, i guess ill have to get it pro re dyed, its odd tho as merc sold me just the armrest part, and strange that this is a non repairable item, i conclude that the pocket/armrest is manufacture moulded into the panel and cannot be changed... gutted...

Do a search on this Forum, or on the 230 Forum of MBWorld. There is a posting on one of them with a procedure for removing the door panel.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
this is pretty simple, you can redye the part with SEM leather and vinyl color. you take a part to the paint shop, they match the color with sem, 1/2 pt or pint whatever you want.
then you clean and scuff the part and spray it with a small gun. Almost every paint supplier in the US has sem or DuPont color, thats the only 2 that make it and they are both good.

I see this post is a couple of months old so hopefully you've already accomplished this task. I replaced my driver door pocket/armrest about a month ago. Part of the latch was broken so it did not close tightly which let the seat belt catch the rear corner. Anyway, removing the old one...I drilled out the melted plugs then used cutting nuts (Lowe's) on the additional plugs. Took the door pocket with me to find the size that would work. Might be able to use a jam nut...just have to find the right size. Honestly I do not recall the size but we tried a few. I did not put nuts back on all the posts...a few of the short ones just did not have enough room. I think I got four or five back on. Those plus the screws at the bottom, into the door panel, seemed to make it plenty secure. Mark
