Do a search on the forums this topic has been argued to death.

Sum it up
600 = luxury
55 = sportier

SL55. It is cheaper. It is an AMG. It has the same horsepower. Some say the extra torque on the 600 is a moot point given the limitations of tractiion control. My guess is the SL55 will have a higher percentage resale value. Now, of course you get a wood steering wheel with the 600 so if all you are doing is sitting in it in your driveway then the 600 does win in the ostentatious department.

I was tempted to trade in my 55 for the 600 when i saw one sitting at the dealership. the fact that only three 600's are on the island compared to like fifteen 55's seemed sexy. but after all, the 600 is more of a older person's car, so i have no business driving such things!

i would think the 600's can be modified to greater effect than the 55's with renntech and what not, but seeing as it's kinda hard to modify mercedes here... 55 for me

SL600

Given the moderate price difference in the MSRP and given the fact that they are comparable speed-wise - I'd have to go with the 600. While they both still have the 5-speed trannies, it should be much smoother with the 12 vs. the 8.

The SL55 is harsher, rougher, a little more brute, but after all, that is an AMG. When you're buying a sports car that should be your main objective

Go for the 55!! looks meaner, especially with the exhuast!!!! Plus, same horses, cheaper. IF i were older, and i had the money, i'd go with the 55

It's not the same horses, it's just quoted as the same. Tests have shown that Mercedes understates their engines greatly.

Cayenne Turbo
Same power...
But SL55 is a sport car, SL600 is a gentle, fast lux convertible...

The 55 will tap out at higher speed's because it's forced air induction, while the 600 will just pulverize it (the 55) I've experienced both car's at higher speeds
