Thanks for clarification....on the delimiter as I am at a meeting checking car sites and multi-tasking.....the 186 thing was a sport package or P something option I think....cheers...

Really, "they" can. It is called De-Limited, not just raising the limiter. Trust me, see my sig. below for proof. I'm sure over the years many cars ran over 186 mph before speed rated tires even existed. If you pay the right people "they" can remove it. If it was suggested at the dealer then it would be frowned upon from a safety stand point based on the tires ability to sustain speeds as per the rating. It is something that you would need to have a tuner provide.

My company ECU tunes these cars and we can remove the limiter, raise it or leave it alone. Most guys opt to remove it.
SL's have a 0.29 drag coefficient, which makes them pretty slippery. Looking at the underside, I doubt there is any downforce. But at ~4,000 lbs, it would take a fair amount of lift to make it unstable. At 170 my Testarossa was unstable. The SL55 and my F40 were planted at 200. The F40 from downforce. The SL from being a pork chop!

I don't think you need a total de-limit. Unless your a regular drag enthusiast how many
times are you going to go 185 mph in every day driving.

Exellent Point Dino. Thats why I was very disappointed to drive a Porsche 996 Turbo at very high speed. It is no fun at 170 MPH when the front of the car starts to get very light and it feels like you are sailing in rough sea. However the heavy SL feels planted at highest speeds, I think it is a mixture of front engine, high weight and good aerodynamic balance. It feels safe even above 200 MPH, which is a great attribute, in my opinion.

Your are expecting over 185 MPH in the half? What have you done to your car? I guess my car is pretty slow, it took me almost a mile.
