So the new nose does appear ---- "late next year" per the article. That would suggest the 2005 SL's are the last ones that will remain unchanged.

I dont think the F1 nose would be too bad. It will make the car more aggressive but will lose some classiness. Its a give and take. Only time will tell.

I'm impressed, 2005 seems like a big year for MB. C-class facelift, supposed changes to the W209's interior, new SLK, and now an F1 nose for the SL along with engine upgrades, i hope they put the 350 engine from the SLK into the current SL350.

Unhappy

omg, just placed the order for my SL55 last month, and my broker told me it will be here in end of May. Now, I can't stop asking myself "should I back off before the car arrives?" sigh..........

honsetly, I felt like deceived. Previously own 2 sl500 and switching to sl55 as my broker told me he gets an allocation for sl55. And the main reason I've decided to stick with sl is that MB does not replace existing model as frequently as Honda.

sigh....what an major disappointment.......

Do12aEmOn,

Just wait and see on the new nose. This is just speculation on the magazines part. We have heard these rumors over and over again and have seen the after market "spy" photos (none are true spy photos). I still believe the chage will not occur until "08. I went a head and got the 04. If you sit and worry about a new body style you will never get a new car. You wait 2 years for the bugs to be taken care of, then order, then you get one year before another change. MB has not done major changes every 4 years in the past, it is hard to believe they would start now. If we see it on the SL65 at the New York auto show then I would be concerned.

They don't...

This is a typical midlife facelift all Mercedes' get.

Remember that the current SL has been out since August 2001! Most people forget that as it was somewhat "falsely" introduced in the US as a 2003 model (should have really been a 2002).

A bucket on wheels
Let me tell you guys why i do not believe we will ever see the F1 nose on the current SL. I could be wrong but stricly from a business stand point it does not make sence at all.

SL has been out for only 2 years now, if they changed it soo soon, you will get a few pissed off owners.

With the upgraded engines(SL65amg, and SL600) the car is a roadster and for a third the price of an SLR, it will accelerate almost as quickly, the last thing they would want to do it make the cars more similar to eachother.

The SLK has the F1 nose, so they can't make it look like a car thats worth a lot less then the SL either. Those are a few of the reason's why i dont think they will implement the nose, i could be wrong again, just my .2 cents. And for people who do like the F1 nose, lorinser offers one. And if they do offer one, im sure someone will figure out how to remove it sodo not worry for anyone who has ordered one and is expected delivery soon as you are gonna be presented with an exceptional car.

Looking Ahead

Interesting thoughts. Doubt though that Merecedes is concerned much about competition between its own models. There always has been a certain abount of trickle down in the designs with the lesser models looking like scaled down S Classes, etc. Once we start seeing the SLK nose and get used to it the SL will start looking dated and it will be perfect timing for the nose to be grafted onto the SL's with the 2006 model.
