SL55 S/C pulley questions...please help

Hi all...I have a 2007 SL55 and am wanting more power. I'm doing a tune and pulley for sure but am undecided on a clutched 77mm or 83mm. I am being told pretty consistently that I can do an 83mm pulley and tune with no addl. mods other than a Bosch 010 since my car already has the 550cc injectors and a larger heat exchanger from the factory.

However, I am getting varying opinions on supporting mods required with the 77mm pulley and tune. Some say just the Bosch 010, some say larger injectors too. Others are saying a larger HE is required as well.

My driving style is not aggressive at all (for the most part)....I do want to be able to be able to handle a c6 Z06 or comparable on a zero to 100.....and am not sure an 83 and tune would get the job done, but I think a 77 with a good tune would...

So.....question of the day.......what supporting mods other than the 010 if any are needed to do the 77mm pulley? Like I said, I'm not a super gearhead, I may only get on it once or twice for every 4 hours that I drive the car..I just want to make sure that I have the power on hand if and when needed.

Thank You!

I can help

Stick with the 83mm and tune. You don't need injectors with either

The bosch pump is a good idea either way as they tend to go out.

You aren't talking that much of a huge power difference between them. I would do a 83mm and focus on cooling mods and maybe headers.

Thank you sir. What all is included in the price that you quoted me in PM? Also do you sell the 010 Bosch and if so how much?
Thanks

I have some input..

Hello J.L.K. I see there have been other posts about this from you and even from myself so I will give an update on my progress here in this thread.

So I finally installed my 83mm pulley and billet pulleys on the SL. Mine is a 2007 as well. The belt wrap kit was included in this as well. I purchased these from Shardul back in November with his awesome Thanksgiving "name your price" day. First of all, Shardul was great to deal with as most members know on the 55 Kompressor Forums and the product is excellent. For the most part, I feel the benefits of the belt wrap kit. It pulls so much stronger to redline which I guess makes it feel more powerful. I know that it doesn't have any more power but I feel the full contact of the supercharger. The whine is a bit louder than before. This, I am very happy for.

My next mod will be the resonator delete. Once again no performance gain but I do like the sound. After this I will most likely due the Eurocharged Tune and possible headers. I know this will really net gains from my research on this forum as well as advise from Shardul.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Cheers!

Shaun

^ Along with the smaller SC pulley, you might consider a scatter shield. Here is a link. https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...er-pulley.html

This is not to say the smaller SC pulley is not reliable, it is just a bit of insurance as these pulleys and even stock pulleys have failed and it gets ugly when they do. I run one and have a stock SC pulley, however, my counter pulley is larger than stock.

Thank you for the update Shaun, and thanks for the lead on the scatter shield cal1. This is the first that I have heard of pulleys coming apart, but if it's a possibility, I will be ordering one. I have pretty much decided on the 83mm & tune, will also be doing the Bosch 010 and now the scatter shield as well...

I have gotten a few PM's in addition to what has been posted here, with info aiding in my decision. I think the 83 is the right choice for me. I understand it will make about 20 RWHP less than the 77, but the two words that continuously go hand in hand with the 83 are safe and reliable.

I will post results when I install the pulley and tune.

I've done all the things listed above except mess with headers and any part of the exhaust. You will get great benefits with headers.

Your came with a Bosch 010 pump. If it works, you are good. I think you can find them for around $130 brand new if you need one.

Hard part about wanting to keep up with a Z06 is if you are talking about a modified one or a stock one. Either one can be challenging depending on the year... The harder thing to do is know when to stop modifying a SL55.

I was talking about a stock C6 Z06 (505 HP). If he's not stock, I have a ProCharged IROC that would more than likely make quick work of most modded Z06's. Would a good tune and an 83mm get me to say a 12 flat qtr. mile car?

So, I have pretty much decided on the 83mm pulley, tune, and scattershield. Is there any downside to this "upgrade"? Check engine light or anything else? I realize that the car may run a little warmer and at that time I will do cooling upgrades if necessary. Thanks

No CEL. No downside

Don't forget the Belt Wrap Kit. You can do a tune when you feel the need for more power later. This where I am at right now.

Cheers!

Stock, The 2007 SL55 ran in the mid 12's. The stock Corvette 7.0 liter C6 Z06 (505 hp) runs about a second quicker. The 1200 lb weight difference in the 2 vehicles is a huge factor.

Go see Shardul - He is great.

My E55 with ONLY an 83mm pulley and EC tune is as quick as my 11.8sec @120mph cammed LS7 ute according to my V-box.

Yesterday I received the 77mm pulley and the OBD cable for the tune from EC. I thank everyone for their input and suggestions, and I will keep everyone informed with the progress.

In the middle of March you stated you'd purchase an 83mm pulley. In April you took delivery of a 77mm one. Curious what changed your mind?

Even though you're bumping a 2 year old thread... I'd be interested in his response.
