Am I missing anything
Hello All. I've been searching for a SL55 for a few months now. After watching national listings (I'm in Maine nit many around these parts) I found a 03 Black on Charcoal, Pano, Parktronic, Keyless Go with 53k on it. Not sure the number of owners prior but current has had it 7 years. Supercharger was replaced last year and ABC pump was done in 2013 along with fluid flush. Car is in excellent cosmetic condition and PPI was done today that showed no codes of any substance. Alignment is off a hair so it needs new tires. Brakes pass inspection but I want them done anyway. I've figured roughly $1k for tires and was quoted $1,200 for brakes (no P030 package). I've wanted to try out the Pilot SS tires so I was kind of glad they needed to be done. Long story short I can buy the car for $18k so I'd be in at roughly $20k.
Am I missing anything??
Thanks in Advance.

do a carfax, go to a dealer and get the star master sheet, complete history. do yourself another favor and get a good wearing tire, hankook, bridgestone

FWIW even at a price of 18k it is still a car with an appetite for maintenance commensurate with its original price. that said, sounds like you find a sweet R230.

It is complete since day it was built of every service MB did to the car. I just call a service manager and ask him to look up a vin # and print it out
If you are buying at a dealer tell the salesman you want him to go get it for you.
if you dont know anybody just go to a dealer and tell them you are buying a car, somewhere and ask them to go print up the sheet for you

I guess I've been fortunate that my local dealer has been willing to pull multiple histories for me. One recently on a car I was considering from a competing dealer. Aside from the supercharger replacement (done by dealer) the car I'm purchasing has been maintained by a well respected indie. As far as ongoing maintenance costs I'm well aware that high end cars are "special". I recently had the brakes ($1500) and a full service ($1800) done on my E550. The price I choose to pay to drive vehicles that I consider far superior.
I was concerned that the wife wasn't going to like the SL55 after having owned a XKR that she wasn't crazy about. She drove it back from the PPI and has now warned me that she'll be driving it often!! I just wanted her to like enough to get her support!!

yes I got them, will send to you in a week or so
any time any owner takes their car in for any service you should ask the service guy to pull up your master sheet for you, its not national security, its your personal property

if you take your car in to the dealer just ask when you are talking with a service advisor or if you want to see one for a car you are interested in you should go to a dealer and ask a service advisor to see it, if it is a salesman just tell him you want to see it before you will buy the car. Ifyou have a good reason there shouldnt be any problem for them to provide it
