Mr. James
Bought a SL55 AMG several months. Wow!! what a car. I've owned a couple Mercedes, but, this is the best.
However, I like doing my own mechanic work and have for 60 years. Problem I'm having is I broke a right rear shock and purchased a new one from Arnott. Come to find out I need to go to MB Star system in order to follow the proper proceedures.
I've looked at a couple websites and need some suggestions as to which is the best one to visit so I can do a good safe job.. Your help would be appreciated. jc

I see noone replied to this, and I dont have an experience, But for an answer to this type of question, go to the E55 forum or some other super active forum and ask there, the SL55 forum isnt as active, but since star system is used on all MB, active forums will have more people with knowledge of this. I suggested E55 only because they tune those alot with the star tool due to lower price, same engine and more practical

IF all you have is a failed strut you could technically replace it without star, but bleeding the system properly without doing a pitch or rodeo is time consuming and a bit of guesswork. If there are fault codes stored they may not clear even after you replace the part and you may still have issues.
I'd find a good independent shop in your area that does MB work, and find out what they would charge you to at least bleed and level the car after the strut replacement.
You can buy a clone copy of the system for a couple hundred bucks, but the learning curve can be steep for some and it's a lot of investment if you don't do this kind of work all the time.
