PPI/Purchase SL55 + advice on which car to buy
I am an owner of a 996 Turbo and 996 C4S so not familiar at all with these SL55s. I am interest in getting a 3rd car Now because the prices I see for 03-06 seem to be good value. Do the Mercedes dealership do a good job with PPIs or should I have them drop the car off at an Indy shop for a PPI? From the reading I have done so far, it seems like ABC on the SL55 is like IMS for the 996. Is it bad to assume that a PPI can not check to see if there are issues with ABC? What else should I be aware of when looking to purchase a SL55?
There are two SL55s at this one lot in Burbank(MDK Int). One is a 2003 and the other is a 2005. Carfax reads clean and I like the price on the 2003 but not the red interior color. The Carfax on the 2005 is clean, car looks to be tuned, dropped, have carbon interior, nice interior color, SL65 rims, lower miles, but is 7k more. I keep gravitating towards the 2005 but not sure if I should pay 7k more for this or go with the 2003. If the PPI checks out on both, which car should I get? I will be in California in early March so hoping for some advice. They had the two cars for over two months now so I don’t think I need to worry about someone jumping in to buy before I get there.

The 05 SL55 has already been sold over the last weekend. I am getting the 03 SL55 PPI'd today and hopefully purchasing it today or tomorrow. I actually love that berry interior. I'll post back if I get the car or not and what came up on the PPI.

Congrats 57staff. Guess I really don’t need 3 cars yet. Thought I would be able to talk myself into liking the red interior once I saw it in person. Glad you like The color combo

Thanks TTL703. I've been keeping an eye on that SL for a couple of months now and was able to pull everything in the last couple of weeks. Speaking of 3 cars, anyone want to buy an '05 Mini Cooper S?

PPI cost $110 over at Muller's in Burbank - reputable indy here. I was able to closely observe the process and ask lots of questions.
Mostly servicing items - brake and tranny fluid changes, LCA bushings, ball joints, engine mounts. Basically as the car approaches 60k miles it's time to get these items serviced and replaced. There was a stored code for the crankshaft sensor - need to keep an eye on that one.
Otherwise, just some paint nicks and cracked front and rear bumper plastic. There's some interior trim items that I don't think I'll ever get replaced - berry red interior is apparently pretty rare.

I bought the 05' from them, sorry. Got it delivered very quick and overall good experience. Been going over the car this weekend and so far very solid. A few little things but its expected being a 10+ year old car.
It's actually Havoc's SL55 that you can read about a mile long thread of his build issues with various builders. But boy does it move and sounds sinister. Can't wait for the weather to get decent and really drive it.
