Need 09 SL63 Head Bolt Repair Shop Recommendation - RBM of Atlanta refusal to repair
Do any of you have a recommendation for a good repair shop in the Atlanta area? I've used RBM of Atlanta for many many years to do work on many of my cars that I've owned including the following: 300, 400 and 500E, 600SEL, S600, and SL600. But, for the SL63 the shop manager said they will not touch the car's head bolt issue unless I agree to do repairs to trivial stuff like a window switch that is operational but one of the retaining clips is broken, replacing arm rest that "doesn't lock properly" or stuff that I can easily do myself like brake pads. All in all with all of their nit picking for a car that's nearly 10 years old, they came up with an estimate of over $106k.
The bumper to bumper aftermarket warranty is not on RBM of Atlanta's do not accept list and was used to do initial "coolant leak" repair work that my car was taken to them in the first place for. I would prefer that any repair shop recommendations also accept aftermarket warranties.

I feel like this is something MB should recall, if this many people are having problems then there should be some class action suit and MB should take care of it. Sorry nothing positive to contribute to this thread.

The WORST sales and service dealer in Atlanta. They prey on the uninformed and money crowds.
Used to have an Indy and he’s gone. Sorry no other recommendations

Yeah. I wouldn't disagree with you there.
I took my SL600 to them for service a couple years ago for oil change and annual emissions... and, ironically my car developed a really bad misfire after the service advisor went out to inspect and get mileage of the vehicle. The service advisor wanted me to pay for diagnostic and for whatever repairs were needed to fix the misfire. I told the advisor h*ll no and immediately spoke to the service manager who agreed to diagnose the misfire.
Before I could make it to work, the service manager called me and said that the misfire must've been a "fluke" because they cleared codes and misfire did not come back even after a test drive. Fast forward two years later and I never had a misfire or check engine light since.
I chalked That situation up as a one off in that the service advisor must've been trying to reach some quota that he had. I've racked my brain since trying to figure out how he could've gotten the car to misfire so quickly and can only think that he loosened the gas cap.

That's a great question. I'd say all dealerships are on the bad list. One dealership would not schedule an appointment to diagnose because the car is more than 5 years old and hasnt been to that dealership for any kind of repairs before. Another dealership talked a great game on the phone and said that the estimate for repair would be between $5-6k but when I took the car to them, they said that they would only replace the engine with a new or used one and that they would charge $7k just to tear it down (more than the estimate to repair). Can't for the life of me figure out how they could be all over the place with what's needed when all they did in diagnosing was to remove the spark plugs to do a leak down test over a weekend. Final conclusion was that they did not want the job because it is not profitable since it'll take too much of their time and because I refused to simply replace the engine with new or even used engine that has an unknown history.

What a sad platform the M156 is, idk how MB doesn't offer a recall for this.
You need someone like this to do it for you otherwise and just pay him..

I would go to every dealer. I would also try consulting MB headquarters in Atl. Find a customer service rep.
I have done business with Classic and Buckhead. like them both

I have used Revolutions MB repair in Decatur for the last 10 years. Matt Purcell (owner) is super knowledgeable and has maintained my S65, S600, E430 and 300SD. They don't just throw parts at a car to fix it....which has been my experience with RBM as well as MB of Buckhead.
