SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL nose job
I am new to the board. I wanted to get some thoughts on the SL nose job. I think it looks pretty agressive. I have a Silver SL now, when this comes out I will go to the SL55

That nose is the most ugly, contrived, ridiculous and pretentious piece of styling since the Edsel - or even since Audi's latest attempt.
I cannot believe for a moment M-B will revise the SL's styling with that protuberance.
No chance!
If you want one like that try the add-on merchants after 2006.... it won't be a Mercedes in-house update.

Mercedes has speculated on changing the styling of the SL to look more closely alike to the SLR, but that is not final at all..hopefully they dont go through with it , i think that they SL is perfect as it is....
"The new SLK's nose takes its styling cues from the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, with a new front-end look that will feature on all models bearing the "SL" designation from now on. The face-lifted SL, due in 2005, will complete the F1-style-nose sportscar trilogy."
Cry and Weep or get used to the styling change. (Of course you can always grab a 2005 with the current styling.)

The change will be a lot more radical than the current SL's clean front end and bodywork,so hopefully the front end isn't going to look cluttery and different and the rest of the car cleanly lined...any ideas on what they'll do with the other parts of the car??

That nose is almost as ugly as the 6 pipes.
And our only hope is that MB will do this facelift more complex so the SL with modification wont be looking like those Lotec-experiments.. i truly believe in MBs stylists qualifications...
It's not as simple as it seems to make "nose" for SL and don't spoil whole design [and car] .

First, I wouldn't consider any of the sources quoted "official" and second, Mercedes tends to be much more conservative on its higher-end models (as most manufacturers). People buying cars at usually twice or three times the price point of lower-end models (including the SLK) tend to fit into a demographic segment that doesn't go for "trendy" cars. I believe the average SL buyer is still between 50 and 60 (correct me if I am wrong).
From what I understand is there have been just as many responses coming from DC Germany (including from Bremen where is SL is manufactured) and Switzerland (triggered by customer questions) that the F1 nose will not make it into the facelift.
Guess we'll see
