SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SBC warranty extended to 25 years

SBC is a safety concern, ABC is also a big safety concern for the public. A ruptured line spilling hydraulic fluid everywhere ought to be a hazard for other drives as well as yourself losing control of the vehicle. Something like this should also be considered for warranty, esp when i've seen cars ruptured their lines rather early on and with low mileage.

Regarding reimbursements for SBC repairs before receiving the warranty extension letter: They are, but if it was 3rd party they say they "may/might not".

I made an appointment and dropped the car off at Mercedes of Downtown Los Angeles on 08/31/2018. They loaned me a courtesy vehicle through the long weekend even though I offered to bring the car back on Tuesday since they don't service these type of repairs on Fridays/weekends and Monday was a holiday. I got a text on Tuesday saying the car was ready to be picked and I picked it up on Wednesday. The service tech said all that was necessary was a software reflash to remedy the issue. My friend with a similar vehicle (E320 CDI) had a red message on the dash and his vehicle is having the accumulator replaced.

Supposedly, the SBC end of life is a concern so they trigger the warning after the number of uses reaches a safe threshold to avoid catastrophic failure. When they did your software re-flash, it sounds like they zeroed out the counter which appears to be an irresponsible way to address the issue, leaving you at risk for a future failure. However, maybe it was something other than reaching the threshold, in which case their repair may have been appropriate. I guess it depends on your mileage... if it is high (near 90,000+) then I'd be concerned.

Well, glad to see some of my old buddies still active here. I just received my letter from MBUSA regarding the extended warranty on SBC components. A couple years ago after much deliberation over how to solve the problem, I chose to have a Mercedes dealer replace my SBC unit that had hit its activation threshold. I just placed a call to the dealer that performed the work. I will report back on how it goes.
DasGeld, I think I saw you ask about timing on about when the service threshold might trip. Mine hit at about 95,000 miles.

I had my main SBC unit and the brake light switch replaced over the last two years. Here's some info over at benzworld, including my posted experience:

I have access to developer mode and was going through it today with out making any changes. I would actually like to exceed the threshold so i can set a fault code and have it replaced earlier for piece of mind. Does anyone know how to do this ? All the videos online are on how to reset it I want to do the total opposite.
