Thinking of selling my SL600 and buy an 07 SL55 W P30 package.

I'm currently driving an 05 SL600, 83K miles right now, got some good mods on it, gobs of power, but unusable power. No traction at all even with 305s in the rear, just too much torque. The power curve of the SL55 would make it easier to drive fast, so i've been thinking of getting into an SL55 with the P30 package, they are really rare and i love the way they look with the SL65 front fascia.

I found one which i believe to be an extremely good deal, 2007 30K miles, clean carfax and garage kept, mint condition and is asking $30,000. Based on Bring A Trailer, a few have sold with the same stats for $40K + ...these are rare enough that they might increase in value in the future you think? I already know i'm gonna take a huge bath when i sell the 600, everyone is scared of the V12. Would you guys make the move?

That sounds like a great deal. I have a non-P30 2008 and paid a few thousand less than your potential situation.

I too looked for a 55 with the performance package but one didn’t present itself when I was shopping. Be prepared for more costly brake repairs on upgraded units that are quite frankly overkill. My car stops on a dime, no need for those massive rotors. Also, this is a GT cruiser, do you really want an even stiffer suspension?

Provided you prefer the cosmetic change to the front fascia and accept the above then I’d suggest you move forward. If something goes awry don’t worry since for a few thousand dollars you can add a 100% mechanical slip differential to a non P 30 car and get the most beneficial and performance enhancing feature of the performance option anyway

Honestly though, if I was you and could afford it I’d keep that beautiful 12 cylinder and add the AMG car to my collection.

good luck!

I wouldn't do it. I've had a SL55 and now a SL65 and would never trade the rarity of the v12 alone for the v8. Usable power is all in how much you feather the throttle before going WOT. What brand exhaust tips do you have in the first pic? Your car is very nice and clean looking!

Personally, I'd keep the 600. That said, Autocar magazine compared the 600, 55, and 65 back in 2004. They liked the 55 better than the other two.

Yeah the V12 is definitely a different breed, i think there's a cool factor to it, people at gas stations would always ask me, "there's a V12 in there"? It's approaching the 100K mile mark so i'm a little worried about the big ticket items like coil packs and engine mounts that'll need to be replaced. I don't think i''ll get any money selling the V12 so might just keep both, it's insane how much the SL600 has depreciated.

These are just some stainless steel tips i found on eBay and had my welder welded it up, they're dual 4" tips and looks great, also have a muffler delete, car sounds very good with no drone.

I'd go for the 55.
