2004 SL55; changing belts

04 SL55 with 130k miles.
Driving home today on the back roads. Get about 4 miles from home, and a "visit workshop" light comes on with a picture of the battery on the left.
Did not hear any odd noises. Pull up to the next turn, and I have no power steering. Figure I have lost a belt, so watching the temp gauge closely just in case the water pump is not turning.

About 50 degrees F at the time. Gauge actually moves down just a little bit. Not overheating at all. Pull into the garage and shut it off. Start it back up to see if battery is discharged, and it starts right up.

Had to take care of some pressing things this evening, and just now got the chance to go look at it. PS, AC, Alt and WP belt is shreaded with pieces wrapped around the crank pulley. Getting ready to order belts, but want to make sure I am getting the right parts. Figure one of you guys has probably done this lately.

I like Continental belts. Found two at Rock Auto. Figure I may as well replace both belts while I am at it. 6K2460 for the WP, AC, PS and Alt, although the description says: "Alternator, Water Pump and Power Steering" and does not mention AC. Clearly, the AC is lined up with the PS pump. Supercharger belt is part number 4080507.

What is confusing, is that they also list an Accessory Drive belt, part number 4060970. I realize I am missing a belt, but am I missing something else? Looks to me like this car only has two belts.

The ABC has been replaced with coil overs (that's another topic for another day) so the PS pump is only for power steering. No tandem pump.

Am I correct in assuming there are only two serpentine belts on the SL55?


Can anyone tell me if those part numbers are correct? I never used to have issues with Rock Auto, but lately, have received several parts that don't fit; and I have to pay return shipping when I return them.
Any help is appreciated.

Those part numbers are good. Just in case there is a reference thread for part numbers etc. and someone wants to add them to the list.

Hi ​​​​​​@LynnBilodeau - bumping this thread as I also need to replace both belts on my 2004 SL55 which similar as you has a coil over and ABC removed. I have a power steering pump from a ML55 in it which was part of the Silvers Neomax coil over swap that I had done and am very pleased with.

I assume the car still uses the same stock belts for supercharger and accessories as the coil over kit didnt suggest a new belt of different length. My question is what accessory belt did you purchase? The MB part number for the stock accessory belt is 1139970092 and I see that is cross-referenced to a Continental belt 6K2460. THank you for your super helpful thread here and would appreciate any confirmation on what accessory belt you bought for your SL55

I believe those first two numbers are the Continental part numbers. 6K2460 for the WP, AC, PS and Alt. Supercharger belt is part number 4080507

I think I kept the old belts for an emergency and probably packed them in the sleeves from the new ones. Will look tomorrow and post accordingly.

I ended up buying this Gates belt on Amazon and replaced my pentosin soaked Poly V belt on my SL55. This belt was identical length as the existing belt and too about 15 mins to get on after some fiddling with it. All my squealing is gone now! My supercharger belt wasnt squealing so am still using that for now and no issues.
