Just got the old girl out of the shop - 2009 SL63

two of the head bolts broke in the head. I was lucky to have fidelity insurance (owned by Jim Moran the guy that brought lexus to the united states)

I didn't know how this was going to go fo you know how these things are but they were very nice about the whole experience and gave immediate authorization after the heads were taken off

I have the powertrain plus insurance so it covered most everything.

Both motor mounts replaced
Transmission mount replaced
Hydraulic pump replaced for the ABC suspension (it just started with a light wine)
& of course the head gaskets, head bolts, and lifters

since everything was open I put on a new water pump for the car has 60k something miles & a set of plugs

9k dollars worth of work
plus another thousand for parts for preventive maintenance

doesn't really matter for she's home and she's faster than when she had two bolts broken and no one could figure what was wrong
People thought I was crazy for I kept on saying "head bolts" and everyone kept on telling me that's very very rare and most likely not likely.....

well it was the case
not only one bolt but two broken bolts broken into the block

Did you have to keep topping up the coolant beforehand, like every 2-3 weeks?

yes, depending how I drove the car. If I drove it hard I would have to replace some water

Having all of that work done and documented will make it so much easier when the time comes to eventually sell.

More and more of these are showing as the M156 equipped cars age. The updated head bolts are much better as the original design was horrible. MB should have recalled all the engines and updated the bad head bolts. They absolutely knew these were a problem since they updated the parts on the later engines. Glad you got everything fixed. Now, keep it and drive the crud out of it.

I questioned my sanity maybe once or twice by taking an engine with zero symptoms and having this done as a preventive measure with upgrades where they count. Then I read a thread like this and feel relieved.

Glad to hear everything was sorted out with your car.
