Hi, New to the SL55

Hi -

New to the board and new to the world of AMG's. About 3 months ago I purchased a '04 SL500... I took it in for the 1K service; four days later I'm now the very, very happy owner of a new SL55. What a difference in these two fine automobiles. The SL500 was a pleasure to drive, but the AMG is a pure adrenalin rush. This has to be the fastest production car I've driven to date. It's easy to say that my next step is to make it even faster!

Anyway, Hi, I hope to learn a thing or two around here about this new passion I have discovered. I'll post some pictures as soon as I download them. Thanks!

Regards,
Machine

Make it faster if you really need/want to. The 493HP is usually enough. Just be wary of voiding your warranty if you modify it.

Welcome!!

You will love the SL55. I have had mine for about a year and 1/2 and have enjoyed the experience. It functions as a daily driver, trip car, track car and everything in between.

If you want some info on mods...PM me. I have had a few tricks performed on the car and it is brilliant....about 50 more HP and 50 more ft lb of torque and the pesky speed limiter is gone! Enjoy!!

Hi Monty –

Two reasons:

1) I hadn’t had the opportunity to test drive the AMG before making the original purchase. This was my first Mercedes and I had limited, firsthand knowledge about the cars

2) This was a replacement car for my ’01 M5, and I only drove that car every once in a while. I quickly started missing the overall performance of the BMW. The rest of my cars consist of 2 SUV’s and a Ford F-350 Power Stroke diesel – so I really wanted something that truly separates itself from anything I had ever owned. I think the AMG is the answer. Unfortunately, and as nice as it was, the SL500 wasn’t the answer for me.

My Mercedes sales representative knew I was interested in the AMG but he didn’t have one available for me to drive – and I also think that he wasn’t too sure on how to gauge the seriousness of my purchase. I can see where he was coming from. After all, what would you think of a 35 year old who wants to buy an $87K SL, and pulls onto the dealership in a lifted, diesel truck?

The 1K service was actually a courtesy service. Before I drove the SL500 off of the Mercedes lot they asked me to come back for a check-up at around that mileage. That’s when I drove a SL55 they were preparing to ship to Florida. Mine came in four days later

Congrats and glad it turned out the way it did, as long as you didnt get raped on the trade or the SL55 price. I know what you mean about a young guy coming in to buy a $125K car. Im 34 and i showed up to the MB dealership in a white wifebeater t-shirt and some gym shorts. ;-)

SL55 profile buyer?

Wow I think the SL55 buyers are all about 34-40 and we all have trucks and like to dress down when at the dealers. Just to f--- with them. I showed up in riped jeans and a free tee shirt to buy an CL65. The sales manager was up my *** and wanted me to prove my income. I fax him my 1099's and then I almost got my **** sucked. Maybe next time I show up in my Zenella suit? Great fun and great cars?

Congrats!!

No Kidding. It was on a Friday afternoon when I first pulled onto the dealer lot to possibly make the original SL500 purchase. I just arrived from Austin, TX to meet my wife and some friends out on Lake Lewisville (Dallas). Truck, cargo shorts, University of Texas t-shirt, baseball cap. Too funny.

As much as we try not to pre-judge, sometimes it happens and usually always bits us in the backside!
