Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG Big Fin Rear Diffuser

Hi everyone,

I know some people here don’t appreciate new members posting anything too soon. However, I have now been looking for this items for months and yes I have looked this forum thin. It is like it doesn’t exist anymore and this is basically my last resort. Hopefully someone can assist.

Please see attached picture of the rear diffuser in question below. I could be open to the SL63 conversion as an absolutely last resort if anyone knows any decent manufactures except for MB of course.

Thanks in advance!!

Yeah, I just picked mine up cheap on ebay. But that one does look a little more pronounced than mine. I really haven't seen that one before.

And by the way, post away! Everyone here has been really cool and helpful to me. Now the e-class board is full of really sensitive nerds... which is to be expected.

I've been looking for the exact same fin. Ideally in CF not gloss black... I'll share in this thread if I come across it, please do the same!

Thank you both for your replies!

Yeah I have seen the eBay ones, but they don’t look half as good anymore. (In my opinion anyway). I know some people might prefer the more subtle look. However, could you share the eBay seller you purchased yours from. Think they all come from the same place in Taiwan, but yours do seem to have larger fins than others. At least on the pictures they provide.

To be honest I just don’t think you can get them anymore. Probably no market for it (small). I have been on to several aftermarket manufacturers that use to do them and even others. Non of them have them anymore and the others never did.

I am considering to go to a body shop and just have a custom made one. Otherwise, to buy an eBay one and get a body shop to extend the fins and then re dip the bumper in carbon fiber look. They are rarely real CF anyways and when they are the quality is rubbish.

Thanks again guys, I appreciate!!

Those people need to calm down.

Regarding your last point, what about this: Aftermarket Bumper Cover w/ Diffuser

Or, for an OE fit, maybe see if the lower trim can be separated and replaced with a diffuser: OE Bumper Cover + CF Diffuser

It could be last resort if everything else fails. It does look pretty good the SL63 version. However, the updated bumper is too modern for the front bumper, so I’d have to replace that as well which I basically don’t want to be doing. Here I’m thinking especially the parking sensors.

Thank you a lot for your input, it does look like it’s some nice parts. unfortunately they don’t seem to be sending the full bumper to the UK anyways.

I was just hoping someone could send me the right link or had one lying around somewhere. I guess that was just wishful thinking.

This looks like it, but matte black. You could probably get it hydrodipped or vinyl wrapped.

Sorry I'm new to this page, and I just bought a 2003 sl55. I'm looking for a CF diffuser also. Any suggestions and links to one?

My exact one from the seller I got mine from is no longer there but searching "r230 diffuser" brings up all of them. I will admit the current supply fins don't look as aggressive as mine but still look good. If you have the monies I'd do the 09 rear bumper and diffuser swap from revo. Here are just 2 links from the ebay style I have.

Awesome, thank you! However, after review, it appears the diffuser does not fit my 03 sl55 Kompressor convertible 2 door trim. Do you think it will still fit or should I look for another one? Lol

What makes you say it wont fit your car? In the advertised photos they show the diffuser on a 55. Both of those will fit a 03-08.

Lol it fits your car. They are literally advertising it on your model car. It's just Taiwan ad crap getting numbers wrong. Trust me it fits.

My Shyler - did you ever find the large fin diffuser? I haven't given up and I only want to largest fin diffusers in the world, nothing less. the ones on eBay look too timid, not the aggressive rage-filled splendor and torque of the SL55 at 2500 RPM. I have a 2006 SL55 and I'm looking for 2008 as well now so I can have that year as well. Seems many mechanics that I've been speaking with agree and the common theme is that the SLs of 2003 to 2008, and even before, are the best model years in the SL line. I need a large fin diffuser to convey this message to the world and I can't just settle for a Taiwan-made smooth small fin diffuser. I almost bought one for $800 that was described as a good fit for 2005 SL55 but, then the seller told me that i would have to change the bumber cover in order for this to fit........$800 and bumper cover change....no thank you.....i'm not trying to rebuild the car....just improve it's design.

Mr Syhler,
Sorry, I misspelled your name in my previous post. But, i thought you would be interested to know that I found this on eBay -
eBay item number: 162664377056 - "For Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG Pre-Facelift Only BIG FIN's Style Matte BLK Diffuser"

this looks pretty close to the CF version and if it fits, I may just jizz all over myself, considering how much of a search I've conducted. there is one left because I bought the other one. if the seller is a piece of isht, I will contact eBay and get my money back. I've done this before so I'm not concerned. Hopefully, the seller is an honest God-fearing family man and if he's not, then COVID will eat him alive anyway so it's all good!

looks like patience is truly a virtue. i found the same exact large fin diffuser and mine is coming this weekend. 100% carbon fiber and from the manufacturer who made the one in the picture. Glad i didn't buy those smaller fin diffusers.

Hi Ajai Thomas,

Sorry I haven´t seen this before now. Haha. You had me laughing there with your second message then!

Yes I believe it has now become available again. Not sure if you actually managed to get one. Otherwise FisherFast can most likely help you source it as he fitted one to his recent build.

Let me know if you were successful. Just seen your PM as well and again sorry I never responded sooner as I never saw it and don´t come on here regularly.

Why is this such a secret that needs to be passed by PM among people who might know where to source this?

If you know - just post it.
