Exhaust System Upgrade

While I'm not unhappy with the exhaust sound from my SL 55 I'm thinking theses more that can be had. Surely I don't want a "drone" but a more pronounced sound would suit this fantastic automobile. Any suggestions?

Start with resonator delete and if it’s enough remove the secondary cats

Ditto, resonator delete is perfect for me. It has a great snarl under acceleration, just enough burble at idle that you can tell it's not a garden variety SL, but is almost stock at cruise. No drone and the overall sound is excellent. Best of all, it's cheap!

Thank you both for your input. My intension is not to have a "drone" but a more pronounced sound. Looks like I'll remove the resonator and have mandrel bent tubing fabricated and see what happens! So on to question two, does anyone know of a custom fabricator who preforms excellent work and has a mandrel bended in Atlanta?

I found my local shop by asking several hot rod guys I knew. Most of their work is custom, so if they're happy it's a good sign. Then I looked at the company's website and they had plenty of pictures of full custom jobs. That was good enough for me.

Remove the resonator, it will be exactly what you are looking for. Deep throaty exhaust note, and no drone.

When getting it done, have them weld a "brace" across both pipes behind the resonator prior to cutting it out.
This will keep the exhaust tips looking straight afterwards. Ive seen some shops weld everything back together,
and the tips look a little skewed in or out because of movement when cutting and welding.

welding your own exhaust is a good option too
takes a lot of time but it really much fun
design your exhaust
rent a Tig if you dont have one

yes, the resonators have nothing to do with emissions
